Drew Brees is MVP.... Refute it. (1 Viewer)

Mahomes is going to get Brees’d by Brees. Very poetic way for Brees to finally get his due. Brees deserves it.

5000 yards and 50 TDs will win it without question

If it were just about stats, Brees would have at least 2 MVPs.

Mahomes has now lost every single big game he's played in. He's failed to lead his team back in the 4th quarter in all those games despite having multiple chances. He's not the MVP. The MVP is the guy who has consistently made plays in the 4th quarter to get his team big wins in the biggest spots under the highest pressure. That's Drew Brees.

But who is MVP of their team? Drew has done more for the Saints than Mahomes for the Chiefs. If Chiefs lose again? How is he helping his team?

You act like the voters care about that. They don't. I've given up trying to figure out how they "supposedly" decide how they vote for MVP, because it's never really made sense.

Mahomes is likely to win it on his stats, which is what we'd asked several times in the past and were told "Stat's don't matter, record matters", which is literally a TEAM stat.

Now that Drew's trumping him handily in the record battle, everyone wants to bring up Mahomes' stats. I'm done considering MVP a legitimate award anymore. It falls in the same vein of Marques Colston NEVER being voted into the Pro Bowl.

This is the truth.

If we had a media worth a ..... someone would state it this way on air.

The future might belong to Mahomes. Apart from stats, he needs to connect and make the decsions and execute the play at the most critical moments. He's not quite there yet...

I think a lot of people on here who think the voters are gonna base just on numbers are in for a rude awakening. Which they shouldn't be seeing as Drew's numbers have multiple times in the past not been enough for him to win MVP.

Did that NFL.com article last week where execs voted Brees MVP not give people enough of a heads up that obv voters are leaning to Drew and him having the undisputed best record in the NFL will be all the ammo they need now.

Saints are about to, at the very least, be tied for the best record in the NFL. Brees led comebacks against the Browns, Falcons (once), Ravens, Bucs (once), Panthers (once), and now the Steelers.

Mahomes came back against the Broncos (once), and the Ravens.

If you look at MVPs since they started giving them out, overwhelmingly the team with the best record’s mvp (almost always the QB) is the winner. Like almost every year that didn’t have a 2k yd runner (OJ, Barry etc) or LT killing fools.

Best record, NFL record for yards, season NFL % record, etc, etc, etc.

Mahomes will make an excellent OPoY.

Yup. I'm sure if it was up to any of us here at SaintsReport, any of us. We would give Drew the league MVP award. I want him to win it, and I would cast my vote for him.

but it's not up to us. It's up to a panel and here's the panel.
AP Voters

Guys like Phil Simms, Boomer Boomer Esiason , Rodney Harrison, Rich Gannon, Tony Romo, Bill Cowher, Bruce Arians, Tony Romo, Trent Green, Troy Aikman; have all publicly been on the record at some point this season and said they would give their MVP vote to Mahomes. These are all guys either have voting rights for this award, or are highly connected with individuals who have a vote.

Those guys vote on this, we do not... and we already know they support Mahomes for this award. Unless their view drastically changes in these next couple of weeks their minds are already made up.

Mahomes has yet to actually win a big game

That is so true, What was the big games he won? You have to go all the way back to week 1 and 2 Chargers and the Steelers. Good wins but its like what have you done for me lately type thing? To his credit his defense sucks but at the same time against his credit. 2011 Saints defense sucked Drew carry that team to 13-3.

I'm on the fence now about which way the voters will go. Brees had a badly needed solid game against the Steelers, and Mahomes didn't look great against Seattle even though he did record 3 TD passes.

A lot of the more vocal voters jumped ship over the last few weeks after Brees' month long slump. Maybe the one Steelers game was enough to sway some of them back?

Brees should win if it becomes a toss up because the "Career Achievement Award" sentiment is out there. I know some think that's a backhanded compliment, but the voters that are solidly for Mahomes have been arguing against that for months now, so it must be a thing that's getting discussed a lot out of the public eye.
