Drew Brees' mother has passed (2 Viewers)

No matter what, she's your mom. You should be the bigger man(or woman) and make amends. Life is truly too short.
As someone who is constantly told to reach out to a father who estranged me, I find it difficult to agree with this.

RIP, Ms. Brees. Thank you for your contributions through your faults.

how could such a terrible thing happen to such a great guy? my thoughts and prayers are with the brees family.

Lots of rumors going around. After this qoute from her brother:
“It’s my understanding that she was at her girlfriend’s house,”.
People are speculating that she was a lesbian.
I have also read on the Chargers' board that this may be a possible suicide. I'm praying for you Drew, I know it must be tough.

Usually when women refer to their friends, they say girlfriend or girlfriends. It doesn't mean a sexual thing. There is no girl word like buddy or bro..

exactly... when my 70-something yr old grandmother says she's going to her 'girlfriend's' house-- it doesn't make me think she's suddenly chosen an altenative lifestyle.

I agree. We don't know the situation. It sometimes happens that a person can reach out over and over and keep getting the same hurtful reactions. In such a case, it is not for anyone else to judge the situation, but to keep them all in our prayers.

Sympathies to Drew and his family. I am sure there are reasons they were estranged. My wife's mother has a personality disorder, and it is for the best that they are estranged. Still Drew must be devastated.
As an aside, I googled Mina's obituary, and found this:

She is survived by her family including sons Reid and Drew as well as brother Marty Akins, a former University of Texas quarterback and the 2002 Democratic nominee for Texas Comptroller. Our thoughts are with them in this unexpected and difficult time.

Amazing how self-absorbed Texas is by trumpeting Marty's record as a UT quarterback and not even mentioning that Drew is a future hall of famer.

BTW that obit quote was from Burnt Orange Report out of Austin.

I agree bro, why should you be the "bigger man" when he wasn't even a big enough man to take responsibility for his own kid..

Well put... My wife lost her mother last year and she also had a difficult relationship with her mother. It sheds a whole new light once someone is gone because the realization of making amends one day is lost forever... and you cant imagine what kind of guilt that can create for you no matter how bad that relationship was.

My heart goes out to Drew and his family. Hopefully his child gets to hear all the good things about his grandma and not the bad...

My prayers go out to Drew and his family. Despite his estrangement from his mother I'm sure it's difficult.
