I would think that whenever he decides (if he ever does) that he wants some sort of front office, coaching, or mentoring role, that he would be given the opportunity to pursue that role. I think he's enjoying his family life and existing business ventures right now. I hope he does come back in some sort of official capacity in the future.

Many players have done it. Pat Riley and Phil Jackson were NBA players who excelled as coaches and executives.

The number of stars who can do it is far smaller. Many depart the game altogether and seek out less-stressful streams of income, like commentating or motivational speaking.
