In before complaints about not trading for an OT in a system that doesn't value anything other than LT. lol

Too late. Someone already emoted about trading for a DT when they need OL. Because obviously it's impossible to do both and if you have a problem at one position you are not allowed to improve another position until you fix that problem.

Saunders isn’t getting cut lol

There has been talk about trading or cutting him. He's not happy with falling behind Breese and frankly, although he's a fun guy, he hasn't lived up to what they expected him to be when they signed him.

Also, our run defense was bad last year. They may be seen as a way to upgrade the run defense.

I LOVE this move. Such low risk for a player that will see the field and be good at what he is asked to do. He wont be asked to rush the passer but he eats space while having at least some ability to make a play because of his length. He plays with crazy good leverage and uses his power and long arms to control offensive linemen. When making tackles the runners just go down hard and fast. He also is good at getting his long frame in passing lanes and likes to hit the football when tackling. If I'm a linebacker this guy would be my dream come true. Depth on the dline is so important. No matter what this helps short yardage, goal line, depth and special teams.

What he isn't is a 3 down playmaker. He knows his role, will stay in it, execute and every now and then make a big play.

I've heard that too and that's the only other way this move could make sense. I don't understand though why we wouldn't just IR him since we can't cut an injured vet outright. Perhaps that's coming.

But even when we have carried a second nose on the 53, which isn't all the time, we typically make that guy a healthy scratch anyway. So why trade for one?

If you IR him, you have to pay him. If you wait until he is healthy and then trade/cut him you can save some money. Not sure how much because I don't know how his contract is structured or what the amount is.

But, like I said above, our run defense was bad last year and I think Saunders was part of that. So any move to improve the run defense is fine by me.
