Eagles fans in the French Quarter? (1 Viewer)

They travel pretty well and have a dedicated fanbase. Hopefully they were overall good natured after the win and enjoyed their time in the city.
They also have a lot of cohesiveness as a fan base - so everyone gets involved in the Eagles chants and other group cheers.

It was a lot of people. Kind of surprising but as mentioned, they probably bought all their tickets before the Saints had a surprising first 2 weeks and the bandwagon got a ton of extra folks.

Something I forgot to consider in this is that their fans didn’t buy these tickets between week 2 & week 3 - they bought them in July or August, back when I was a part of the mere 16% of the fan base who had any optimism about this upcoming season.

Blame the people who held tickets but “refuse to go to any games until DA and Carr are gone,” because we all know that that was a not-small portion of the fan base this summer - I’m sure they spent all week trying to figure out if they could take back their ticket sales following the team’s hot start.
From what I can recall, there was close to a full house for the Panthers game and I didn't see many Panther fans at all.

From a television standpoint, it was pretty loud when the Saints were on offense. There were a lot of Eagles fans there. Fox kept showing Eagles fans reactions too. Friend of mine who is an Eagles fan, and she said the place was electric with green. Sad really. I get the economics behind it but the optics are pretty shameful............
Yes it's very sad.

Out of all the years that i've been going to the game, i've only see something like this twice. Once was last year with the Lions game and now this with the Eagles. There's no way that this is typical from their fans. Where was this large number in 2018? How about when we beat them in the playoffs?

To have that happen on your home turf is embarrassing and I know this won't happen, but if you're constantly re-selling your tickets, your rights should be revoked and passed on to someone else that will enjoy going to the game.

I didn’t think I’d have to say this, but given the state of this fanbase a mere five weeks ago, which of these two home games do you think they considered a win, and which one did they figure would be a loss

The eagles always have good crowds but this year was way bigger. 2018 there were a lot of them. I remember them all leaving at halftime or early 3rd quarter because we were blowing them out. You aren’t going to get as many for the playoffs because fewer Saints fans are selling their tickets and that’s a short notice trip.

The ones I really questioned were the Lions fans last year. I was definitely asking them where they were when we blew them out in 2017. They weren’t there. They waited until they got good to travel.

I remember way back in the day, the 90's and early 2000's, I would go with a buddy of mine who is a Bucs fan, to New Orleans and you would have thought we were in Tampa. Looking back on it, the way New Orleans really catered to the visiting fans was quite astounding. During the Drew Bree era, we went to New Orleans and during that time, there was zero catering to the visiting crowds. Crazy.....

The real kicker in my opinion is the hospitality New Orleans shows to the visiting fans, in this case, the Eagles. When the Saints go to Philly, I have had numerous opportunities to go but I will not set foot in the Link. There is a reason there is a jail on site......

And this I get. I wouldn't spend my hard earned money to go see my team get blown out. Of course, I have but I won't ever again......

I see what you mean, but maybe it's hard for me to understand approaching the season and deciding "which ticket to sell".

Again, what happened Sunday was an embarrassment to not only the city, but the faithful fan base.

I believe we were once known as having the best and most loyal fans. Maybe it's the difference between the older generation that once held up the torch and the younger generation.

It’s very easy, actually.

Schedule released May 15th. At this point we’re four months into a nonstop offseason pummeling of Dennis Allen by the fan base.

Everybody takes a look…

“Panthers, week 1. They won 2 games last season, it’s the opening game, it’s at home. I should probably go to that game. The Saints are probably going to win, even if I’m not the biggest fan of the coach or QB, they should best those guys.”

“Eagles, week 3. The Eagles went to the playoffs last year. I’m one of the 84% of fans who don’t think the team will be any good this year, so why bother going to a game where a playoff team is gonna kick their tails right after the Cowboys do so on the road. I have better things I could do on a Sunday afternoon than watch that crap. I’m going to list those tickets ASAP.”

Again, what happened Sunday was an embarrassment to not only the city, but the faithful fan base.
The faithful fan base has been anything but that this offseason. When you’re as optimistic about the team as I’ve been, you’re pejoratively referred to as a sunshine pumper - and as a woman I’ve had the additional “honor” of at least one poster wondering if I’m this positive about the Saints because sleeping with someone on the team/staff.

I’m going to level with you here: I’ve loved this team my whole life, even when it was tough to watch. My childhood spans the Mora and Ditka years, Haslett was the coach during my bridge into adulthood, Payton was hired the year I finished college. Those first three coaches played to some mighty empty Superdome Sundays, some of which I’d gone to as a United Way kid because a car dealership or local bank would buy enough tickets to avoid a blackout then donate a chunk of them to our chapter. The only period of time our fans ranked as best and loyal were during the rebirth of the region, because Saints football was a uniting force confirming that we were both alive and resilient. The winning helped, but we shouldn’t trick ourselves into believing this is a fan base that has always shown up no matter what. Hard times, volatile economies, and bad football defined the first half of the Saints’ existence in some measure or other. We’ve always been a good party, but that happens with our without football as the backdrop.

The dome (as I remember it) wasn't as packed as it is now, but it wasn't a ghost town either. I recall having to listen to the game on the radio during Sundays that I wasn't able to go, or when no family tickets were available, I would go downtown, flash fingers to find sellers so that I can buy tickets from.

During the Haslett years, sells outs started to happen a little more frequently, and as you mentioned, businesses would sometimes buy the remaining tickets. Even though I was at the game, it "felt good" to say that the game was sold out and it was on local tv. Saying all of this to say, we've come a very long way since those days.

Loyal? Yes! That first generation of fans (which I assume would be around 70 - 90+yrs old today) were loyal and hardcore. Tulane stadium would be packed and I recall John Madden mentioning this once saying how the Saints went 20 years without making the playoffs and fans still showed up. Despite how bad the Saints were back then, the 1st generation of fans were the ones that kept the team around. I don't know why John Meacom sold the team, but from my understanding it wasn't because of low attendance.

Breaking news: Tourist football fans congregate in the most touristy, well-known street in a major city their team is playing in that weekend

Eagles fans always travel moderately well, but they aren’t “taking over” anything.

A few hundred Eagles fans on a Friday night will be drowned out by the legions of Saints fans driving in on I-10, I-55, Highway 90, and the Causeway come Sunday morning.

They can think they’re “invading” now, but once they get on Poydras and start that trek to the Dome and they start mixing in with that sea of black and gold from every cross street, it won’t be a mistake who’s the visiting fans.

They’ll try their little chants and songs when we’re on offense but won’t affect anything.
Chuckles, it didn't quite happen how you were predicting. There were times our offense was on the field and it sounded like an away game. They def traveled better than a few 100

Opposing fans in a town known as one of most visited cities in the USA, shocked shocked I tell ya

Another thing to consider is that the city of New Orleans can not support a NFL team alone. The population and income is too low. The Saints are more of a regional team with many season ticket holders living hours away. This adds to the cost and time obligation to attend a game. So it's understandable that many won't be able to attend a few games.

Like I said, they always travel moderately well. The “few hundred” was specifically referring to Friday night when the original post was made. Would be quite silly to assume those would be the only Eagles fans at the game because I highly doubt they all flew in on Friday, the majority likely got in on Saturday morning. Still don’t think there was as many as the 2016 Broncos and Raiders games though.

And as boisterous as Eagles fans are, it still didn’t affect our offense. While there was more noise than usual while we were on offense, it was at about the same level as when everyone tries to start doing the wave. I didn’t think they were loud from the bottom of the plaza, where are your seats? Might’ve had a rowdier bunch in your section.

While they traveled this year better than 2012 and the two games in 2018, they still didn’t takeover anything. THIS is a takeover…
