#1: Winston downing the ball after the Jarvis Landry catch was a huge mistake. I know us fans didn't catch that but in the " fog of war" the coaches have to be aware that the clock wasn't running.

#2: After the Juwan Johnson catch, prior to the Lutz game winning FG the Saints rushed to the line and downed the ball with :23 seconds on the clock. The Falcons had 3 timeouts. There is no reason to rush to the line to down the ball. You have to make the Falcons use one of their timeouts. The Falcons got the ball back with :19 seconds and 3 timeouts and only needing 30 to 35 yards to get into FG range.

Regarding #2, we also had a chance of converting that 3rd down and making our own field goal attempt significantly shorter. Instead, we downed the ball on 3rd down. It was a mistake on both levels: time management & down management.

Those were huge game management mistakes. The first one is a bit more understandable than the second one, as the refs contributed to the mistake. But regardless, DA has to be better in those moments. It will eventually cost us wins.

Thank goodness Big Nuts Lutz hit his mark.

I agree. The coaches need to do a better job. They were coaching like rookies yesterday.

I believe we could've forced Atlanta to use two of its timeouts, one on the 3rd down "spike" down and then another on 4th as we tried to run out the clock for the walk-off FG. Them having the ball with about 14 seconds and one timeout would've looked a helluva lot better for us than 19 seconds and 3 timeouts.

Of course, the entire complexion of that sequence would've changed without the errant "intentional grounding" spike play. "Fog of war" indeed, coaches gotta sharpen up.

This one is debatable because it saves a few seconds but I’m not a fan of taking a timeout a couple of seconds before the 2 minute warning. We took a timeout at 2:03 on 2nd and 4. This gives the offense a run pass option instead of a very very likely run.

Everyone thought Landry was touched down in bounds. I sure did. Spiking the ball so quickly after Johnson's catch was an error.

I don’t think we know what happened yet. I initially thought that it was Winston’s boneheaded decision, and I still think he has to take responsibility, but someone noted that they should’ve been communicating via Winston’s headset, so the coaches are primarily responsible. Who made the spike calls? Was the communication good? Regardless of who was at fault, they better spend time working on time management, and down and distance. Both the QB and coaches need to be aware. It should be a 2 way communication.

I did too, and they were right, but I still think Jameis and the coaches need to be looking at the clock. I remember watching like 'well shoot, why is he spiking it the clock stopped'?

I do think they had plenty of time to run another play instead of spiking it on 3rd down, and if they did decide that's as far as they wanted to go, at least wait until 3-4 seconds to spike.

I am confident THEY ALL will GAIN from this massive "W" as film is reviewed and more "W"s come. There were so MANY NEW things on the Field, from players returning to health, Taysom, Lutz, Jaboo, CGM, PEAT ; to new faces from Honey Badger, "Juice" Landry, Chris Olave, M. Maye etc. DA Coaching and everyone , EVERYONE so excited to test this New Toy.......having the "D" NOT perform as we had good reason to feel they would have had some sacks for losses, Ints. etc.......? Man! What a GREAT game in spite of all of that! Wish to see the locker-room celebration from this WIN! We're only going to get better and better @ WINNING from here on( barring injuries, obviously)!~WHODAT!

Both of those mistakes could have EASILY cost us the game. Add to that Lattimore's retaliating and getting 15 yards on a dead ball personal foul called penalty. That may have been the dumbest. I put that on coaching to a degree to remind these PROFESSIONALS of no stupid selfish penalties ESPECIALLY AT THIS POINT OF THE GAME. It was so incredibly freaking stupid. You wanna get back at him? Wait until the clock hits 0:00 and the game is OFFICIALLY over, then we can all fight him together. Lol

Thats a tough one. Drew Brees would have spiked that ball. The whole idea is to save as much time as possible so "spiking the ball so quickly" is the objective. That's 1 minute drill 101. It was just unfortunate that the refs missed the call.

Like someone else said, If Landry gets up and runs for a TD, I'd bet good money they would have said he was was touched down.

But this game will be great for film review and getting the team dialed in.

#2: Jameis thought he had another down. I rewatched the game and when Jameis headed to the sideline, he signaled 2 as in 2nd down. I am not sure but I thought the headset supposed to be off during the last two minutes when an offense is on hurry up mode. If not, offense has a real advantage since communication is supposed to be off 15 seconds before each snap.
