Opinion ESPN’s Bill Barnwell rates the Saints as least desirable job for HC candidates [mod edit] (25 Viewers)

These articles drive me nuts...
This guy is an idiot!

What exactly is the least desirable HC job in the NFL?

A job almost any non NFL Coach will gladly accept!

It was pressure from the fans that got DA fired. Many of them wanted him fired the day he got hired. Carr is in the same situation. There’s a group of fans that will swear he’s the worst quarterback in the NFL until he’s gone.

It was an owner who (albeit slowly) finally became aware that the team was falling apart….with a GM that seemed to be perfectly fine with it continuing, when the team had clearly given up on their HC…..

Many fans wanted him fired after the 1st season, including me….that clearly would have been the right move but hindsight and all….fine….

Some of those same fans (including me) think Carr was probably the best bridge QB we could have gotten at the time and think he is the least of our problems, I have no problem with him playing another year for us with a new HC……

Some of the HC openings will be perceived as more attractive than others. We will find out shortly how others view the Saints job. My own view is that the organization will have to sell prospective coaches that in the first two years they will be judged on direction, improvement, and the building of culture, rather than wins and losses. My memory is that San Francisco's pitch to Kyle Shanahan was similar when he was hired.

I expect the next two seasons to be especially challenging. And we will have to do a lot that is right to look forward to season three.

Yep. Dan Campbell and Kyle Shanahan reportedly got six year contracts when they went to Detroit/SF. The Saints might have to do something similar to land the coach they want.

If you view this with an unbiased eye, he is right. This is not a desirable job compared to others. However, there are only a handful of open jobs.

I think people are letting three seasons with a terrible HC cloud the fact that this team has some talent that can form the base of a good team. I mean, if we think this team only has the talent to be a 5 or 6 win team, why did we think DA was doing a bad job?

Or should we be looking past the record to tell how bad of a coach DA was?

What makes you think Aaron Glenn will be a bad HC?
It just screams trying to keep the Payton days together. I think his defenses are greatly aided by a dominant running game which keeps his defense fresh. Hell will not have that kinda luxury yet in New Orleans. This organization needs to desperately get away from comfortable and that hire will just be the epitome of a comfy hire. You're also probably only gonna have Carr for 1 more year then you need to draft someone or pray someone like Rattler working out, an offensive coach helps you much more there. I don't think that hire will excite the fanbase going into another year where you're still probably gonna be bad due to cap issues and not being able to fix it all in 1 season.

He was an average secondary coach here where his players often fell short on fundamentals (turning their heads, being out of position at critical times, etc.). The secondary arguably improved after he left.

His defenses at Detroit have also been average to slightly above average.

There's nothing to say he would be a good HC. The only reason he's mentioned here is he's on the staff of a hot team that is offensively inclined and he has ties to lazy Loomis and the Payton tree.

My biggest gripe is he would be an incredibly lazy hire. That's why I want a completely new Front Office where Loomis has zero say in the hiring process.

If any head coach would rather go to the Jets than NOLA, let them go work for Woody Johnson and his son. … There is no way ANY HC or GM job could be worse than that. … Meaning Barnwell’s piece is a meaningless joke.
