ESPN’s Dan Graziano: “If Mike Tomlin becomes available, no coach is safe! “ (28 Viewers)

Tomlin isn’t going anywhere

I live in Steelers territory, and I don't understand why so many want Tomlin gone. Best I can offer is that Steelers fans are truly spoiled, and have been since the Noll/Bradshaw juggernauts of the 1970s. Bill Cowher won a SB with Big Ben and Jerome Bettis, but retired shortly after. Cowher is still revered like Noll is. Tomlin was part of the same hiring cycle as CSP, or maybe the year before, and has a SB ring with Big Ben as QB. The problem, as Steelers fans see it, is that he ONLY has one, early in his tenure, with not so much to show for it after the fact. He has "outlived his SB shine" in the eyes of Steeler fans.

I'd take Tomlin in a heartbeat, if he'd come here. His track record is similar to CSPs, but with defensive background. He was hired the same cycle,or maybe 1 year earlier. Both teams have a SB victory early in the coaches tenure. And his teams are perennially a threat to be in the playoffs, year after year. And both coaches are somewhat "streaky" in that they don't lose games very often, but tend to lose them in groups. How many times did we see CSPs teams start 0-4 before getting it together and making the playoffs. Pittsburg usually starts solid (defensive team), but has a mid-season hiccup and loses 2-4 games (in a row) before they right the ship and make the playoffs. Here's the biggest thing though, IMO....CSP put out a few 7-9 stinkers amongst the 13-3 and 12-4 and 11-5 seasons we got used to. Tomlin has NEVER HAD A LOSING SEASON as HC!

My ONLY concern with Tomlin is that he took over a pretty solid team; which he was maintained quite impressively over a long term. I don't know if he can "build" a team. But he can absolutely maintain one AT A HIGH LEVEL. There's only a few HCs in the NFL that I would jump at the chance to coach my beloved Saints...and Tomlin is definitely on that list. Go ahead Pittsburg....fire him! But do it before the Saints hire someone else!
I live in Pittsburgh for nearly a decade. What part do you live in? We were in North Versailles.
