Falcons sign Mariota to 2 year deal (3 Viewers)

Its actually a pretty smart signing. He’s looking for a second chance, they have a need on the cheap. If he’s great for them, then they don’t have to draft a guy, if he’s terrible then they’ll likely have a high pick next year and get their choice of better QBs than this year.
That's a big gamble for a coach in his 2nd year.
If Mariota fails as the starter, Smith will be going into his 3rd year without a QB and possibly out of a job by the end of year 3.

He's dangerous when it all comes together. Before his broken leg he was MVP level
People still cant figure out the difference between mobile QBs moving around the pocket and mobile running QBs who instigate contact

Mariota, Trey Lance and Lamar Jackson will never last in the league

Russell Wilson moves out of the pocket on every play. He knows how to head to the sideline, slide or throw it away

*Every year Peeps love the annual Qb 40 yard dash (Desmond Ridder)

Yup. Russ and Jameis break contain to throw it. Actually running the ball is not their first priority; but buying time to throw.

There is no gamble. The decision was made by the front office. The falcons are in full rebuild mode. The fans and everyone in the front office knows it. They traded away the best player in their franchises history at the most important position in football and signed a veteran stop gap with upside.
The gamble is trading the known, proven commodity (Ryan) and going into the unknown.
There's no guarantee of getting a next level QB in any draft or in FA next season.

Marriotta, Winston, not much difference. If they changed teams the fans would be making the same arguments for and against.
I expect both teams are still looking to upgrade and if they can’t find anyone else they will rely on the running game and defense to win and hopefully next year they get their qb.
There are big differences. Winston is a far better and more technical thrower of the football. You have to go back to 2016 to find a season by Mariotta were he wasn't just terrible as a passer.

Mariotta is a much better runner, though, almost in the Taysom Hill mold at this point. He's strong and fast, but not shifty. Can he bring his game together? Probably not with the Falcons' coaching.

I'd certainly prefer Winston, biased or not.
