Even in a 'posturing' type episode the hour flies past, just awesome stuff.
One question my wife keeps asking and I haven't bothered looking into--is this show really based (obv loosely) on actual events??

Almost always there is some aspect of ‘ripped from the headlines’
Like the election debate where the three were dressed like Roy, something like that happened in Russia
The fish tornado thing from s1 kinda happened
But it’s all pastiche - these things are real(ish) but they didn’t just happen to one group of people
Except the UFO and 500!yr old sineater - those definitely happened the way they’re showing it

I think that finale will be controversial for some (stylistically/structurally) but I thought it was incredible

It does add a layer.

I love it. Right when you have almost digested the unique combination of complex characters, twisted plot, fresh dialogue, funny accents, quirky sexiness, sudden violence and then WTF aliens?
