Favorite Lesser Known Christmas Movies (2 Viewers)

Rare Exports; a Christmas Tale

very interesting movie. This is one I wouldn't mind to see remade with a larger budget.

Same. People forget it IS set during Christmas. :ezbill:

Yes but it is not "lesser known" is it? (Nor are Gremlins or Scrooged IMO. )

I liked "All I want for Christmas" with Ethan Embry from the early 90s. When I used to have Hallmark channel we saw one called "It's Christmas, Carol" that I liked (i think there is one with Tori Spelling with that name--that isn't it). Also they had one called "Chasing Christmas" with Tom Arnold that I liked. That one had some very subtly dark humor in it for a Hallmark/ABC family movie (and a shout out to the Star Wars Xmas special).

As for some of the lesser known TV specials, "John Denver and the Muppets a Xmas together", "Twas the Night before Xmas" (with the mice and the Santa clock), and "Freddy the Freeloader Xmas" are some that stood out when I was a kid (in addition to some of the ones already mentioned like "Emmit Otter's"--to this day I sing the BBQ song all the time). And I miss the Bob Hope Holiday specials where he would introduce the College Football All Americans. Actually any Bob Hope special was worth 2 hours of my time. More recently I've really loved "Olive the other Reindeer." The kids love it as well and it has good adult humor and nods to old Xmas movies/specials. If you still enjoy Xmas specials and haven't seen that one I recommend it highly.

I watched Freddy the Freeloader Christmas special this year as well as Emmet and 'Twas the Night Before Christmas. All great from my childhood.

I just watched It Happened on 5th Avenue.

I liked it for what it was. Takes major suspension of belief.

Most famous for being the movie Frank Capra was going to make before he decided he liked Its a Wonderful Life better

Christmas in Connecticut w/Barbara Stanwick
Holiday Inn w/Bing Crosby (and the debut of the song White Christmas)

We watch Holiday Inn every year. Fred Estaire is an absolutely brilliant dancer. Really fun to watch.

And not a lesser known but have to watch Christmas vacation while drinking egg nog out of my mouse cup!!

not a movie but I thought that the Christmas episode of Black Mirror with Jon Hamm was great.

Very much like the Twilight Zone
