Florio: NFL must suspend Nathan Shepherd (1 Viewer)

Yes have trained. Didn’t say twist. He is bending his leg/knee. As a player, you have to have the wherewithal to know that can injure a player. If you don’t, then you are too stupid to be in the league, for anything other than being an “enforcer” for dirty plays
So you proved my point. Wherewithal is awareness yes? So my suggestion it was low awareness play due to his thoughts being overrided with “make a tackle” fits more than the malicious play you’re wanting to make it

like I said it’s a similar scenario to Penning blocking Slay Jr into the bench.

The tenacity is there but the awareness wasn’t. I didn’t look at the Penning play as dirty, nor did I pay much mind to the Turner spitting fiasco.

I’m viewing this same way

That’s cool if that is how you want to view it. After watching the video a couple more times, he was trying his roll onto his belly, which he did, once Herbert fell trying to avoid injury, so I’m still 100% on the side of him knowing darn well that he was going over the line with that. It was worse than I initially thought, which i already thought it was dirty. Now i dislike Shepard even more now

I think this along w/ my assessment is accurate. He was desperately trying to make a tackle, so desperate that he didn't realize the ball was released, and play had been blown dead

True, but considering he had his leg if there was intent to roll on it or twist it to hurt the player he certainly could have. He didn't try to roll on his belly, he didn't try to torque it, just looks like he was trying to get him down. Then when he saw the flag he had his "oh spit" moment. For the length of time he held on, he certainly could have done far more damage than he did if that was truly his intent lol. He had the guys leg for what seemed like eons

I didn't see Suh levels of intent to injure, i just saw a player playing stupid and desperate.

Agree 100%. Suh and Burcift were dirty with a demonstrated history of dirty play. Burcift would tackle a guy low, they’d both be on the ground, and then he would tug/twist the leg to try to cause an ankle or knee injury. That’s not what Shepherd was doing. Herbert was still up.

You have a QB who was difficult to bring down all day. Granderson literally gave away a safety not securely tacking Herbert. I see Shepherd finally getting hands on the QB, not letting go, and trying to bring him down from the ankles. Flag-worthy today, sure. Dirty with intent to injure, nope.

So we should just cancel football. That way no one get injured

Rolling someone’s leg is against the rules. It’s not a football play, yet here you are wanting to talk football. Hence the flag that it drew. Cancel yourself first or learn the rules.

How else can you tackle a person when you have them by the lower leg? He wasn't twisting his leg laterally. There is no more in the dirt. You have to tackle a QB or they can still throw the ball.

You don’t roll a leg. Period. If you can’t completely make the tackle, then just hold onto the leg. Never roll on a leg.
I even posted a video of it on page 2. Feel free to revert to it

The rule says you can't initiate a roll or launch and forcibly hit a passer in the knee area or below. I interpret that as rolling or launching into the passers knee. It is not a foul if the defender swipes or grabs a passer in the knee area or below in an attempt to tackle him. He initially grabbed him in an attempt to tackle then tried to bring him down.

Yeah, I saw it. He bends his leg at the knee.
