Florio: NFL must suspend Nathan Shepherd (2 Viewers)

just saw a replay of it. its not a green bay driving the shoulder into the ground kinda thing, i would argue its a player who still thinks the qb has the ball and is trying to bring him down. that slime lineman that dove in head first knew exactly where the football was, he can suck eggs.

I'm trying to look at it objectively. If it was Carr and a Falcons lineman was doing it, I would applaud McCoy for defending his QB. I've got no problem with the center waylaying Shepherd.

Not much has been said of this outside of the Gameday thread. I think the NFL would be perfectly justified in suspending him for that play. It was super dirty.

And while they are at it, suspend all the players who are targeting with their helmets. They are ending players’ careers. But the league won’t do it.

I don't think Shepard knew the ball was gone. And I'm not even seeing the twisting motion everyone is talking about. He isn't intentionally twisting the ankle or knee. You can see him hug the lower leg and bring it towards him to bring Herbert down. At a quick glance, yeah it looked bad. But watching the whole play and really looking at what Shepard did, I don't think its a dirty play. I also don't blame the lineman. He may have been able to see Herbert get rid of the ball and then any length of time is too long to be hanging around my QBs ankles.

Does anyone else think he didn’t know Herbert had released the ball? He just shoveled it and Shepherd was on ground and didn’t see it, it seemed to me. Now to be fair the whistle had blown (did he hear it) and no need to keep twisting but Herbert wouldn’t go down on a play Shepherd thought was still alive.
Does Shepherd have any history of being a dirty player or a hothead?
This.

And Herbert was breaking tackled left and right on them. Like most things in today's society, the clip shows one thing but putting more context to it shows something else.

Heck, they aren't even calling penalties. Olave has been hit in the head at least 3 times and crickets.

To add to that (and maybe someone else has said it; I haven't read the whole thread) did it not look like to anyone else that he was having issues with his eyes immediately after the play? He went straight to the sidelines and put eye drops in. It sure looked like he got poked in the eye but no one in the broadcast even wanted to talk about it. They just wanted to rage about him instead of reporting about what was on screen. I wish the director had stepped in and said something to them about it.

I watched the play with both eyes open.
So what? That doesn't mean a thing. Only he knows what his intent was. I definitely don't think he meant to be malicious. He was trying to take Herbert down because he broke several tackles earlier in the game.

He deserved a penalty and probably a fine for hitting the QB below the knee, but I'm not buying that it was malicious in intent.

I would cut Shepherd to show the team and the league that the Saints won't accept certain behaviours. There was no call for what he did just frustration.
It was indeed a dangerous tackle, and if intentional, it was dirty.

However, you don't act as judge, jury and Goodell and tag Sheperd as "dirty" because of that 1 play. If he does that or similar tackles in the future, DA should tag him as dirty and take action.
