For anyone that still thinks Bush doesn't have rushing lanes (2 Viewers)

Meaning if he turns it upfield that 3 yards isnt so bad.

Aaaaahhhhhhhhh.......

I thought I must have fallen asleep during the game or something.

;)

Break them down play-by-play, please.

I'd also like to see the 'advanced math' calculations you performed to reach these conclusions.

we cant be mad that they (analyst) pointed it out cause we all know, i'm trying to figure out why isnt the runningback coach or coach payton preaching to him to take what the defense gives him, we may need to sub in Stecker and let bush watch what they play is supposed to do, there the same type of back shifty and quick yet stecker puts his head down in the hole, thats what we need to get reggie to do 11 rushes for -5yrds thats a big deal, and it needs to be addressed, I think this rushing performance only shows how worse his running has become.

he left 60 yds? tell me, in your "math" any td's he missed? If so, cut him....

/sarcasmoff

Boy, some Saints fans (as I am sure its true with other teams fans) just can't admit that one of its "star" players just isn't getting the job done. We saw it for years with Aaron Brooks. He would consistantly not get the job done, but fans would always defend him blaming other people for his woes.

Bush isn't getting it done in the running game. Not a huge deal, we are 6-2 (heck I only predicted 6 wins for the year). I agree Reggie has been a huge part of the sucess (1st down receptions, being a decoy, game winning punt return), however we need to put more responsibility on Reggie for his lack of rushing yardage and yards per carry.

Stop overreacting. He deserves critism (that doesn't give people the right to bash him for being a bust, like a post currently on the 1st page). He isn't getting it done in the rushing game, thats obvious. I am not calling him a bust, I am not saying he should not have been drafted #2 overall, I am not saying anything "negative". Simply stating most of his rushing problems are his fault, no-one elses. I can't seem to fathom why some fans just can't admit that..... He isn't Superman, however he has been a key to our success.

Btw, before some fans take this wrong..... I am not comparing him to Aaron Brooks as far as being a player. I am comparing the way fans defend him and put blame on someone elses shoulders rather than letting him take the heat.

we didnt jump on him 8 games in his rookie season. Heck Brooks sat the bech for his first 2 seasons. Your comparison is flawed.

my .02 ....if he were to line up 1 or 2 yds deeper in the I, those holes may be seen by him since he hits the handoff dang near full speed.

On one of the plays Fox singled out, he had a 6 yard hole and bounces outside. He takes that hole, he has one DB to beat and he is taking it to the house, at the very least he has a 1st down and then some.

Wouldn't you love to be a fly on the wall when Payton reviews the film on that play with Bush?

ONE: He's a rookie. How many rushing yards did Deuce has a rookie??

TWO: Our O-line doesn't run block well at all.

THREE: Teams in our division have an easier time accounting for Bush as they've been used to having to account for M. Vick and the defenses are built around that. Vick has been looking like a superstar the past couple of weeks as he's been playing out of division teams.

I never said Reggie doesn't need to improve. He does. But if you think the offensive line is opening up major lanes to run through, you're mistaken. Our running game period needs to improve, especially if we hit the playoffs. We have to pound the rock.

Running was hard against the Bucs and Ravens and will be next week against the Steelers. If he ran north and south today, he would have 20 yards at most, which is definitely better than -11. I have faith this will be worked out soon enough. And for now, as long as we're winning, I'm not too concerned. The attention he draws is a great, great asset to this team.

He had several lanes inside but he always does that little jump back and sideways thing and trys to run around the end.

If he cuts it back inside he has at least 50 yards rushing today.

Yeah, he's getting bad habits. He seems to be regressing with that.

The Bucs were playing the run well but as soon as Reggie gets a glimpse of an opposing Jersey he starts dancing and drift back or towars the corner.

He's not going to get there almost every play like he did in college.

He needs to put his shoulder down and turn up and stop the dancing. He's going to hurt the team eventually with that. This iff season he need to work on some leg strength. He's going down pretty easy.

He's a good fit for this offense but if something happens to Deuce, he is not an every down runner yet.

Is the number of yards left on the field today by Reggie Bush! I have analized his play over the last five games and have come to this conclusion..........He is scared to take on big hits that NFL caliber RB's are supposed to do! Five times today, I saw huge holes up the middle that he missed because he's so busy trying to get to the sidelines. He is constantly running into the pursuit instead of one cut and hit it up the gut. He has to be scared or at least a little timid about contact in the pros. He must improve on this or he won't earned the huge contract he signed.
Hey, we are 6-2. GO SAINTS!!!

I'm starting to think this way too. Hope I'm wrong, but on some plays it does look like he's afraid to take the big hit.

One, how many times did deuce get a chance to carry as a rookie? NOt many. And he did quite a bit on those few carries.

two, yes, and last few years they couldn't pass block either, just Brees is much better than brooks in the department of analizing a defense very quickly and getting the ball out in time.
Brooks probs in oakland, look at that offensive line there, they reek.
Three, great point, i've not seen this brought up.. but you dont' see vick killing carolina and tampa very often.

4, it isn't just our division he has trouble running on.

Reggie does need to settle down and let it come to him. But, you also have to look at where the play is called, where it's designed to go. That is the first place a RB goes is to follow the design of the play, but use vision to cut back if they see a hole in reality that by design wasn't there.

Boy, everyone jumping on this post, but I think it's right on... OK, Deuce didn't get too many YPC today, but compare them for the season... not even close. Deuce is averaging 4.6 yds and Reggie 3.0... How can you bash the OLine for not being able to run block when Deuce has that high average... It's obvious to me that Deuce is patient enough to wait for the play to develop and Reggie comes shooting out of a cannon every time he gets the ball... Too many rookie RBs have come out the gate looking like all-pros to keep making the rookie excuse also... We all thought we were getting the next Marshall Faulk or LT, but it hasn't panned out yet. It is way too early to suggest that Reggie is a bust, but while at the beginning of the season, everyone talked about how Reggie had too much weight of expectation on his shoulders, now it seems like all I hear is how he will be fine, and to be patient and give it time... Don't get me wrong. He has been a great team player, his frustration has not seemed to affect the team, and he is still contributing, all a credit to him, but I think we all need to face the reality that this is NOT what we expected... Looks like, at a minimum, Bush is taking a little more time to adjust to the pro game than we expected.

Let's compare to some of the greats in their rookie season...
Barry Sanders - 1470 yds, 5.3 ypc, 14 TDs
Walter Payton - 679 yds, 3.5 ypc, 7 TDs
Ladainian Tomlinson - 1236 yds, 3.6 ypc, 10 TDs
Marshall Faulk - 1282 yds, 4.2 ypc, 11 TDs
Emmitt Smith - 932 yds, 3.9 ypc, 11 TDs
Reggie Bush (projected) - 424 yds, 3.0 ypc, 0 TDs

I know it's an unfair comparison with him splitting carries, but you've got to look at the disparity... I'm hoping for that big breakout game just like everyone else, but I have to admit that he's barely getting it done right now, and it seems to be getting worse every week right now.
