Here's the facts:
1. Defenses are not going to allow Bush to beat them. He is a hyped-up rookie and they have been and will continue to key on him. Defenses are fine with others getting yards but not Bush.
2. Bush isn't helping matters with his lack of adjusting to the NFL game. He needs to learn that yards are very hard to come by in this league and he needs to run upfield and not sideways.
Because of these two facts, Deuce needs to get the majority of the carries and Bush can help the team better as a decoy, until next year when defenses consider him just another player.
The media is jumping on the bandwagon of criticizing Bush. What they have not done is credit him for all the receptions out of the backfield in order to pickup a first down. The Saints are 6-2 and despite Bush not having any homerun plays to get everyone excited, he is very much a part of the overall success of the New Orleans Saints.
Yeah -- I understand the blind allegiance to Reggie and complete ignorance of the facts. How could you not like him? The most hyped player to come out of college in decades. A heisman trophy. Great stats. Even greater highlight reels. He was supposed to be the #1 pick in the draft if it wasn't for the Texans' moment of lunacy. The team signed him for a ton of cash and we all want him to succeed.
But I can not fault anyone, myself included, for at least being a little alarmed at his current pace. A 2.6 ypc average does not even make for a PEDESTRIAN NFL rb. The contributions he has made to the team have not yet risen to the level of abilities that he is supposed to have. One TD in 8 games thus far, that came on a punt return. His average per reception is about 6 yards. These #s are usually from a back-up fullback. You can thrown around "decoy" and "defenses have to focus on him" all you want. Right now, he is the highest paid decoy in NFL history.
I love the wins. I wouldn't trade stats for those wins any day. All we are saying is that this guy's stats should be far superior than what they are now. People are entirely justified in questioning Bush's production at this point. Forgive us if we'd like to just see SOMETHING from the Saints highest paid rookie in history.
Why is it the moment one fan on this board makes even the slightest criticism of a player highly regarded they are labeled as "bashers"? There is something very wrong with a lot of posters on this forum; they seem to not have the ability to be objective.
I contribute to this site, I think its the best site on the web, this is in no way a shot at this site or it's moderators. However, some fans need to lighten up, take the black and gold glasses off and come down to reality. WE ARE NOT BASHING HIM. Heck, most of us are as excited to have him as the day we drafted him, however he isn't producing like he should be producing. If you can't admit to that you are just blind to the facts, or such a homer that you can't see past the black and gold.
WE are excited to be 6-2, however we realize that 6-2 is because of all the players (some more than others) and coaches. 6-2 is not contributed solely to one rookie with below average numbers. Anyway you write it, Reggie needs a lot of improvement, none more than in his rushing game. Don't like that, oh well, then you just can't face facts.
Wins are irrelevant. It's all about the stats. It would be better to some people if we were 2-6 and Bush was rushing for 8 yards a carry.
Seriously, this whole thread was started because someone saw Fox show a hole in the offensive line AFTER the play developed and AFTER Bush and the whole line was moving right turned perpendicular to the LOS. That was ONE example and a bad one to boot, but obviously they were laneS open all game. If they were laneS open all game, Deuce would have had 4-5 yards a carry, period, because he's a great, smart runner.
