N/S Forgive me for saying this, but the Falcons 2024 Quarterback move is GENIUS! (7 Viewers)

I believe both teams have the same medical staff...Or under the same umbrella. It's time to change things up one way or another.
You can’t tell me that the medical staff isn’t among the best doctors, therapists, and surgeons that is available in the country. No, there is definitely an environmental issue that is impacting both teams. The evidence is overwhelming and undeniable.

The fallacy here is that they HAD to sign Cousins.

Sam Darnold has been a better player and only signed a one-year deal for $10 mil. He was going to be the stopgap until McCarthy was ready and he didn’t get a massive deal.
Perhaps Sam didn’t want to play for Atlanta. I mean, I wouldn’t. :hihi:

It's the old curse of the Super Dome and the SKC being built on top of old indian burial grounds. There is simply no other explanation.

You can say whatever you want about our arch rivals in Atlanta, but their decision to play Penix now is brilliant. True, the money spent on the lame duck Cousins is crippling, but they simply had to go out and get a starting caliber quarterback at the time they did.

But the Falcons always knew that Kirk wasn’t the answer. They were looking to the future. Their plan was to have a teachable kid with some raw football skills to eventually take the reins and start building around him. Yes, Cousins wasn’t happy with that draft pick, but the Falcons simply refused to die under the worn out wheels of a has-been, ineffective quarterback.

So what do they have now? They have a young QB who has had some time to work with his players and has some confidence once he got the official call as the new starter. He is perfectly healthy going into the home stretch of the season. And they also have a fairly decent emergency QB if for any reason reason something unforeseen happens to Penix.

Now that they have the division lead, it seems that everything has fallen into place for them to have a chance at some real success going into the playoffs. They had a plan that is working. We did not… and now we’re starting all over again.

I’ll be hoping for the worse for the Falcons from here on out. But they sure made some good decisions. 😢
Real success in the playoffs with a rookie QB making just a couple starts before then? Ehhh I’m not too sure about that. They’re simply barely an average team.

They better hope for multiple pick sixes like last week. There’s reasons a lot of their fans think their GM may be fired unless they win the division.

+1. Of course, the Falcons didn't know when they signed Cousins that they would be able to draft Penix shortly thereafter.

They now have a ton of cap invested Cousins, coming off a serious injury. That cap could have gone to fix their pass defense, which has looked pretty bad if you've watched them.

If you draft a ready to go starting QB, like Russell Wilson with the Seahawks, you free up a ton of money for other needs vs paying a veteran starting QB past his rookie deal - the highest paid player on most teams. But even if Penix looks great, and you start him in '25, you spent a bunch of cap on Cousins.

Oh, and Penix had 4 consecutive college seasons ended early by injury. So even if he does look good these last 3 games, well, he might be like Winston or Carr in terms of full-season dependability.

How did all you guys miss the line I wrote about how crippling the money spent on Cousins was? My OP post isn't about the mismanagement of their salary cap. SMH :jpshakehead:

It's about having a healthy and prepared young QB ready to take at the most important time of the year in the NFL.
Penix isn't prepared at all for the playoffs. You don't just suddenly start a few games and make noise in the playoffs as a rookie against teams that have done it all season long.
