N/S Forgive me for saying this, but the Falcons 2024 Quarterback move is GENIUS! (1 Viewer)

Paying 180 million (90 million guaranteed) for a QB who has 4 post season appearances (one win) and was coming off torn Achilles is a fools market.
What experienced starting quarterback could they have gotten much cheaper than Cousins? Paying through the nose for an experienced quarterback is the going price these days.

Joe Flaco, Gardner Menschew, Sam Darnold, Drew Lock, Jamis Winston... All could have provided "experience" for a fraction of 180 million dollars. It comes down to NFL franchise are playing with Monopoly money and Cousins is more "marketable" I guess. As much as a 1 playoff win QB can give you over the others...

A motley crew indeed. In hindsight only Darnold looks like he would have filled the bill for a team that was hoping to stay competitive.

But the premise of my discussion is not about the money spent on Cousins. It’s about how they prepared their new franchise quarterback to take the reins of the team.

Everybody pays too much for players that don’t work out. Look at the Saints. We’re still paying for half the players in the league who used to play for us. :covri:

Hold on. Stop for a second, and breathe. Now, say it with me:

Penix played ONE GAME.
and...
That game was against the NEW YORK GIANTS.

He had a single good game against maybe the worst team in the NFL (outside of us). "Genius" is a bit much to be throwing around after that.
I think the genius part comes in how they pulled it off (thinking back to the mysterious shutting down of Penix back in August during preseason) and the exact timing of when to insert Penix to get a max evaluation on him. He is practically being handed a division title with winnable games to play and a likely playoff start. His play can be mixed but the general vibe to the start of his NFL journey will likely end up being positive. Plus he has a young loaded offense to play with.

It was a series of smart sharp moves by the Falcons makes me think we kept the wrong GM 🤣.

Bottom line for 2024 Failcons in playoffs, We 3rd place this has been going on with Loomis ( all leadership ) for several years now. Responsibility of ownership to pick top leadership if U want to win.

So, this isn’t a parody thread? Because:

1) The Falcons are a borderline playoff team only because they play in the weakest division in football
2) They paid Cousins 100M to play, what, 14 games? and then benched him for a rookie…
3) That’s only if they do the smart thing and cut him, if not he will be the most expensive backup in history….

Somebody’s not looking at the long term implications……

You can’t tell me that the medical staff isn’t among the best doctors, therapists, and surgeons that is available in the country. No, there is definitely an environmental issue that is impacting both teams. The evidence is overwhelming and undeniable.
I'm not sure what you are getting at.
