Lewis Hamilton is close to completing a sensational switch from Mercedes to Ferrari in 2025, multiple sources told ESPN.

Hamilton, a seven-time world champion and the driver with the most F1 wins in history, signed what was believed to be a two-year contract extension with Mercedes last year, but it appears now as if the second year of that may well have been an option.

Mercedes and Ferrari both declined to comment to ESPN.

Although not confirmed officially, the deal is as good as done, sources told ESPN, with the move seeing Hamilton replace Spanish driver Carlos Sainz.

I saw some speculation that Audi might make a big play for Carlos to drive in 2025 - so he might just be in a one year deal for somebody (anyone on the grid willing to take him for a year).

That’s pretty sensible actually, Audi can get a premium driver to launch their program. Just throw a bunch of money at him.

According to the reports and pre-season chatter I have seen, the Red Bull was outstanding in testing and Max said that they've made it even more suited to his driving style. So unless they just missed on something (highly unlikely) it's near certain that Max will win his 4th championship and Red Bull will win another constructors' title. Checking my sports betting app, if you risk $100 on Max to win the championship, you will win $13.

The interest will again be on second, third, and fourth in the constructors and drivers races. Ferrari looked quite good per reports - and the whole company's racing operations have been apparently performing better than the past handful of years, so there's optimism . . . but also Ferrari.
