I believe that if McLaren maintain their current form as far as the cars go, Oscar will be world champion next year. I think Lando can get it this year barring mishaps. That was an impressive drive from 15th on the grid and he even backed off Checo when asked so Oscar could get some space and pull off that ballsy move on Charles.

Other teams are lucky to have one #1 driver and McLaren have two.

Oscar definitely seems to have a mental steadiness that looks like championship caliber - to go along with what are top shelf driver chops. He’s remarkable.

It’s wild but you’re right, Lando appears to even be 1A at this point. And Zak knows this - which is why he’s been unwilling to throw the whole thing behind advancing Lando.

If I'm Zak, I show the math to Oscar and say that Lando may need his help at times to secure the WDC this year and assure him that they'll be free to race according to Papaya Rules next season with no favoritism shown to either driver.

Oscar is just so damned calm and collected in the cockpit that it makes it hard to realize he's only been in F1 for less than two seasons. He's got the confidence of a multi-time championship driver. That move on Charles was masterful and to keep him behind and not make a race-losing mistake for 30 laps was nuts.

Lando is going to morph into the next Verstappen in the coming years. Calling it now.

I'm definitely seeing people debating Oscar vs Lando on Reddit. Lol.

I think Lando is fast for sure - but the difference between a repeat champ like Max and a driver like Lando is that Max is just as good and infallible with a fast car when leading as he is when chasing. He’s robotic in his laps.

I think Lando lacks a bit of that. He’s not as comfortable being P1, or being the hunted. I think Oscar is.

He passed Charles with cooler tires and Charles figured that meant he would have an advantage later - but that never happened. In fact, Charles’s tires went first. And Oscar is so damn steady through it all.

I think starting next year, Lando will be chasing Oscar at McLaren, if he isn’t already.

I totally agree with your Lando v Oscar assessment. After watching this past race, I don't know if Lando would have been able to hold off Charles like Oscar did. Oscar's drive during that battle was very, very impressive!

Singapore quali:

Norris faster than the rest - Piastri fails to turn in a fast final lap in Q3, will start in the third row.

Max finds some speed to start next to Lando - with the Merca taking the second row. Ferrari 9th and 10th, and Checo 13th.

When looking at the standings, this is pretty wild.

Carlos crashed starting his Q3 run!

Here's where Merc lost their chance at a podium
