Four Realistic Landing Spots for QB Derek Carr (1 Viewer)

Plus, the NFC South might be the worst division in the NFL in a long time, and if it loses Tom Brady next season, it could be even worse.
not saying nfc south is the best. but thats a bold statement.

bucs 8-9
panthers 7-10
falcons 7-10
saints 7-10

considering 2020 season was 2 seasons ago.

nfc east
redskins 7-9
giants 6-10
cowboys 6-10
eagles 4-11-1

id say that was worse and not "that long ago"

anyway, nfcs shoud be worse next year. gives saints a shot

I’d say future prospects for the NFC South are bleak. Not a single team in the South has a QB.

This division could be a mess for a couple more years.

This says it all to me. Last year he had premier reciever in Adams and they were team mates at Fresno State and he still couldn't get the job done.

He has had better offensive talent than the Saints have had the last three season and his numbers were pedestrian. Why people think he would do better with lesser offensive talent is puzzling to me

Most important if Allen wants to run an extremely boring and conservative offense, there is no need to go out there and get/pay for a QB. For cheap,Andy Dalton can do that

Adams caught 100 passes for 1,516 yards and 14 tds this season.

The Raiders certainly have other problems.

Therein lies the issue. How come he wasn't able to utilize Renfro and Hollins better. He also had 2 very capable TEs in Waller and Morneau. They should be open quite a bit with Adams on the field. Plus Jacobs is a monster at RB. Carr should of been way more productive than what he was.

Carr is a decent to good QB. Saints need more than that.

There's no trade in play. Carr's 2023 salary guarantees if he's on the Raiders on Feb. 15. He'll be cut by that date and become a free agent. He's 40M per season to sign and would probably require 4 years and a hefty percentage guaranteed. That $160M would probably be spread over 7 years of caps.

I rate him as a need, but not a must, at that price.
This is 100% accurate. The Raiders are dreaming if they think any team is trading for that contract when they can just wait. All he has to do is say that he is not accepting a trade anywhere and wait till Feb 14th.

Hollins had his best season as a pro, by far, catching 57 passes for 690 and 4 tds. His next closest yardage total was his rookie season in 2017 for 227 yards. Foster Moreau had the best season of his four year career with 420 yards. Josh Jacobs had his best receiving yardage season. Waller was activated in 9 games and started 6. Renfro was activated in 10 games and started 1.

Decent to good is better than what we have in Dalton and decent to good is about the best you can hope to find in the free agent market unless you get really lucky.

I've never been an enthusiastic fan of Carr - think he's a solid player who never quite worked into the top level of QBs - but he has talent and ability to work with, and given the situation the Saints are in, and the direction things are headed for Carr in Las Vegas, I think under the right circumstances, he would be an upgrade this offseason at a position where we desperately need one. I'm enthusiastic about that. He'd be an improvement in the intermediate passing attack over Dalton which would go a long way to getting this offense moving forward. He's had success, from all I can tell he's a high character guy, and could be a solid mentor to a young developmental QB.

If you're this against it, what's your preferred vision for hoping the team can be more competitive in 2023?

How old is Carr and has he had any past injuries that could hamper him in the future?

He'll be 32 this season. Prior to his benching he's only missed two games in his career. I'm not sure if those were injury related or not. It was one game in 2016 and one game in 2017.

I think a rebuild needs to happen. Gotta hope to find a QB in the draft these next couple of years.

I will say this about Carr. He would be good on an excellent roster that just needs good QB play and has a great offensive mind that utilized him well.

Rebuild, I think, gets overused. Most teams are trying to be competitive every season. Roster management is never-ending; players come and go.

If Carr becomes a free agent and the Saints are successful in bringing him in, that doesn't preclude drafting a developmental QB. But, if Allen does get to pin his hopes on a rookie QB, that realistically should buy him more time, not less. I guess I'd rather see him get a QB he can play now, that's an upgrade over Dalton, and only fitting that it could be a guy he drafted with the Raiders, and sink or swim on that decision.

When purchasing a used Carr,Do we really need someone else’s problems?

David Carr had more INTs than TDs in his career. Derek Carr has more than twice as many TDs than INTs. I'm not saying Derek Carr is great. Nor am I saying he's worth the contract he has, but he's a lot better than David Carr. He's better than what we have on this roster. I wouldn't trade for him. But I'd sign him to a short term contract as a bridge quarterback.
