Article Fowler: “Early belief that Loomis has good chance to remain Saints general manager. Thats not 100%, but thats what people in the know are predicting.” (2 Viewers)

I agree. I have a lot of sympathy for just wanting to clear house with the way things have gone the last 3 year and this year in particular. I have the same urge for a full house cleaning and a fresh start. But I just don't think it's a disaster if Loomis stays. I think he needs to do some things better particularly draft better, stop always trading up, and stop putting void years on the end of contracts for older players and stop pushing money into later years for older players that we might need to part with before their contract is up. But, I also think that has to some extent already started though I still think the drafting needs to be better.

So, I think I would prefer a new GM and I would certainly be excited by the possibilities, but I also know that there is no guarantee that you get a GM that is better than Loomis which could make things go from mediocre to really bad.
We need a player Personnel person and a GM

Very disappointing that Gayle is so clueless that she is willing to allow the team to continue to flounder under his lack of leadership. I guess when you marry into money, it does not matter as much to you.
She owns the Pelicans too, I think other people manage the teams.

Mickey needs to either step down or hope that Khai Harley leaves. We need more football people in the building and less financial gurus that max out the credit card.

I would fire Ireland and hire Louis Riddick in his spot then put Mickey and Khai in business roles and bring in a GM from one of the successful franchises recently at drafting. Detroit, San Francisco, Baltimore.....go get one of their up and coming assistant GM's.

Even that list of candidates is suspect, does anyone feel good about Vance Joseph as SAINTS head coach?

No, but that list is all speculation based on people who have connections to New Orleans because Loomis hired one head coach that had connections to New Orleans.

Riddick would be intriguing fit

Lou Riddick hasn’t been a FO executive/personnel director in 11 years. I think good TV analyst doesn’t automatically mean potentially good GM. Mike Mayock was an example. Riddick had solid picks scattered across ‘09-‘13 in Kelce, Lane Johnson, Ertz, Cox and McCoy. But the rest of the 35 or so picks as Eagles personnel director are very underwhelming-average. His Washington drafts are really bad when he was pro personnel director for them in 2005-2007.

Some * of Riddick’s individual picks are comparable to Ireland’s Saints picks but the track record is extremely shorter. Ireland’s at least can date back to Dallas with HOF Ware, Canty, Gurode, Newman, Witten, Jay Ratliff and others. What we rag on Ireland about for not replicating the magical 2016-2017 Saints classes is worse in Riddick as there’s never been a complete solid draft class while Riddick was personnel director. There’s still been over 10 good starters drafted under Ireland since 2019.

Amazing to me how Mrs Benson is so clueless to some of you, yet was the one who has the line of communication with the players and forced the decision to fire Allen. Interesting

As far as Loomis staying, he maxed things out while Brees was here to keep that window open as long as possible. He knew what he was doing. Also, this soft rebuild the saints are going through was also needed, but anyone paying attention knew it was going to happen. So the endless rants against Loomis seem misplaced. We have one more year of this mess, then the saints are in the clear more or less. However, while drafting lately has been questionable, is it the drafting or the coaches and scheme?

We have mediocre players with a mediocre coach because we have a mediocre GM in Loomis. This all rests on Loomis’s shoulders, period!

How is it you all forget Loomis is the one who hired Sean Payton? Why can't he make a good hire again?
More important would be hitting jackpot on a QB. I would argue that if 2 straws stirred the drink from 2006 to 2021, Brees was the bigger straw. Without Brees Payton might have been done after 3 seasons because his defenses were trash and only Brees kept it from being 4-12.

So, need the QB AND the coach.

Ok.
