the depression/personal trauma ratio in comedians seems very high

Someone (Mike Epps maybe?) talked about using his trauma for comedy fodder and it works both as a coping mechanism and self therapy but also as self punishment, even though you're the one telling the jokes people are still laughing at your pain, so you'd enjoy the laughs on stage and feel wounded by them off

the drug/alcohol abuse ratio is also high in comedy which I'm pretty sure isn't a coincidence

I watched Nick Cannon's Council Culture last night. He and Howie Mandel discussed how they use performance to avoid the deep sadness in their lives. It's a poor coping mechanism no different than other over driven workaholics which they use to run from their own issues.

Repressed emotions are like a steam engine tho. If you don't manage pressure, it'll explode.

personally, my biggest problem i find with depression and bipolar is medicine. i'm on so many and half the time i doubt they work. i can see where famous people struggle to not self-medicate.

I've seen as many missing ears as fingers. For some strange reason, people think throwing motion with fireworks near their head is a good idea.

One time, a cousin of mine did that, and he was wearing one of those baseball caps with the plastic mesh on the back half. Firecracker exploded and melted that sheet into his skin like he got a skin graft. One of the gnarliest things I've ever seen.
