N/S Giants benched Daniel Jones [Update: Giants released Daniel Jones at his request] [Daniel Jones signs with Vikings] (2 Viewers)

Jones has obviously struggled in New York, but he seems like the kind of guy that if he's put in the right system could be a mid-level starter. He's got size, running ability, and the arm. He might just need a system that fits him better like Darnold and Mayfield.

I would not be shocked to see Carolina sign him if they don't like the QBs in the draft.

I think you are right. He's got potential, but needs a better spot to shine, or least be better.

Not a fan of how he's doing. I understand players get upset when they get benched but he could have waited till the end of the season to request a release. From the eyes of fans it sounds like he just quitting. But like I always say.... Not my team and not my concern.

It wasn't just him. Giants didn't want to be on the hook for an extra 23 mil if he got injured.

I thought the contract was a huge overpay, but Jones is very much a viable starter. The team collectively sucks. Jones has nearly 15K yards in his time at the giants and is actually number 5 on their all-time career yards list. Career 64% completion percentage and a 2:1 td to int ratio. IMHO he's a top 20 QB.

Unfortunately, he's gonna have to go play for another basement dweller, probably Vegas if I had to guess.

Unless he decided to go be a backup on a competitive team, but asking to be released tells me he wants to be a starter.

They benched him to screw him out of money. He's not a great QB but he's objectively better than anything else they have on the depth chart. He got bumped from starter to playing scout team safety in one week, and it was solely to prevent him from hitting any contract incentives on his way out.

There's ansolutely nothing wrong about asking for your release when your employer has actively worked to prevent you from making money and you both know you have no future there.

Ok. Stand corrected.

Teams will see what Geno Smith, Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield have done after escaping bad teams. Not every QB will develop, but he has enough that team(s) will take a chance on him and they would be smart to.

I'm not sure about Jones potential. I think he may have huffed too much paint or sniffed too much glue as a hobby.
