Here’s what I have learned in the divisional games… The HC only matters a little bit. (33 Viewers)

I think the OP is saying that the coach can only take you so far if you don't have an elite QB. Just look at Pitt, they can't get past the first round despite the greatness of Tomlin. I think we are starting to forget how great Drew in his prime was.

Last year Allen was being discussed as the most overrated QB in the league and is now looking at possible MVP. Granted the change was an OC and not HC, but a bad coach has bad dynamics that trickles down to the whole team like a tumor. Likewise if he has good dynamics it’s the same. Coaching is super important to elevate players and put them in position to succeed.

Maybe it’s what Mickey thought when he hired DA?
Ha. Seriously tho, let’s look at the odds here. We won’t be able to trade up for a QB.

We know that Carr has had multiple HCs and been in multiple offenses and he’s only been to the playoffs once in 2022 and he’ll be 34 by the time the season starts.

He ain’t the right QB no matter who’s the coach…give Rattler a chance.

Who said Josh was overrated? I know people criticize him for being unable to beat Mahomes but overrated? I never heard that. He was easily a top 5 qb for most people.
Look at his career stats:

Nick Foles taking the Eagles to the Super Bowl and getting the MVP was only in 2018.
Sure and Brady led the Bucs to the title in 2020. But the game has changed so much even since then. Not saying it can’t happen - but it’s more the exception than the rule now.

Mahommes, Allen, Daniels, Hurts are the 4 remaining QBs.

All multi-faceted QBs playing in dynamic offenses that feature designed QB runs and some read option. The Chiefs do a lot less of that now but it’s still a part of the offense.

Again, guys like Purdy were in the Super Bowl last year and Goff, Herbert and Darnold led playoff teams. But it just seems like offenses are shifting to much more non-traditional QB play. And if college FB is any indication, which it usually is …it’s not changing any time soon.

Seems like home field means a lot this year. Washington is the only team to win on the road.

The rebuild is going to take a lot longer than people are expecting. Washington was drafting in the top 10 for probably the last 20 years and finally hit the lottery this year. I don't see how we find the next generational QB talent with our first or second attempts.

I am grateful for what we had over the past 20 years.
Disagree. We lost to WAS by a 2 pt conversion with backup qbs. We lost to PHI because Howden screwed up on 1 play. Those are the NFC finalists. We are not contenders right now. But a few things falling into place and we are competitive.

Johnson, Brady, Kingsburry, etc… it only matters a little bit! Even CSP was only thought to be great because he had a great QB (Drew Brees) and an assortment of good skill players, like Reggie Bush!

It won’t matter even a little bit who the Saints hire as HC because that poor SoB will have Derek Carr at QB and a lackluster collection of has-beens, never-were’s, and injury prone wastes at his disposal!

It’s nothing but a recipe for disaster and disappointment!

Teams need a QB that can run the ball… and pass.

Saints have almost neither… and their guy gets hurt EVERY YEAR!

It’s hopeless folks.
A good talent evaluator can bring his guys. We’ve been sorely missing coaches with an eye for talent.

I agree. The days of guys like Brad Johnson and Trent Dilfer, leading teams to the title are gone.

You need a dynamic, multi-faceted QB to go deep in the playoffs now.

Dude. Brock Purdy started the Super Bowl last year. And he almost won it. There are many ways to go deep in the playoffs. But, yes, a dynamic QB is the easiest way, but mediocre QBs will continue to occasionally win Super Bowls with the right team around them. And they will often go deep in the playoffs just like they always have on occasion.

People's view of this is skewed because Brady and Mahomes have won so many recently.

I mean Mahomes isn't a runner like Hurts, Daniels, or even Allen. He's more of a pocket QB with the ability to move around to buy time and make off schedule throws.

Yes, QBs now tend to be more mobile than they used to be, which is more or less necessary because defenses are so fast, but college teams are also producing more of those guys.

Especially if we hire the right HC. Coaching matters so much in the NFL because the talent is so close. QB play matters so much for the same reason. It's what separates most teams.

You have to look long term. Carr is not the longterm answer. We need a coach that builds a winning culture and builds the team for the long term. Yes. He will have to manage the Carr contract but you can’t let that dictate the longterm plan.
