All the talk about the upcoming cutdown got me thinking.. Who is the highest draft pick of the Saints to not make the 53? I remember Antonio Pittman got beaten out by PT for sure and Stanley Jean-Baptiste didn't last long but i think he made the 53 as a rookie.

Bonus points if anyone knows highest draft pick in NFL history to not make the 53 of the team that drafted them. :)

Malik McDowell was pick 35 a few years ago for the Seahawks and then wrecked an ATV before camp started. He initially went to IR, but I think he eventually was cut and never made an active roster.

Thats a good one but was looking for someone that didnt make the 53 due to performance vs something like that.

Jean-Baptiste was on the roster his rookie year, but was inactive for a lot of games. I think for the Saints it's guys like Pittman or Al Woods, 4th rounders who didn't make it. I don't think you'll find anyone higher than that cut from a team purely for performance-related reasons in their rookie season. It would either be severe injury or personal issues (Dimitrius Underwood, a 1st rounder, leaving the Vikings b/c of religious reasons....look up the guy's Wikipedia, it's wild).

I wonder if it was really on-field performance-related though considering the guy went to federal prison for five years on drug charges two years after he was drafted. Maybe the Bengals saw off-field stuff they didn't like and sent him on his way b/c they didn't want their locker room to resemble what the 1980 Saints' locker room was.

So I was doing some googling to see if Clarett was indeed the highest draft pick cut and I found out that the entire 1967 Falcons Draft was cut and none of them made the 1967 Falcons roster.

The highest pick they had was a second rounder, number 31.

This was before teams had professional scouts, but it is HILARIOUS and the most Falcons thing ever!

This tops the DE they drafted who dropped F-bombs all over the live draft coverage.

Dan Bazuin is a name I recall. Not sure if that meets the criteria.
