How Excited Are You about the Upcoming Saints Season?

I've been saying we are going to be Elite since we signed Carr.

Number 1 Seed, NFC Champs

Super Bowl Championship!

Cautiously optimistic. I think DA has a few things to prove yet, and Carmichael has a lot to prove. New QB, will MT be the old MT, or will he get hurt again? Will the OL stay healthy? They haven't been able to manage that so far. Will the rookies on the DL come around and contribute early? How much will cutting Roby cost us in the secondary?

Lots and LOTS of questions to be answered....and they all gotta go the right way, or it's going to be another long season.

With Winston I wasn't as much excited as I was curious. I knew we weren't going to be contenders but I was curious to see what the team would look like post Brees.
The actual fact is we were contenders and if he doesn't get injured, we walk into the playoffs, easy. That's why for me, it is less about the player and more about coaching/scheming.

Im about the same as the past 3-4 years since Sean and Drews departure. They were enough to overcome all the double digit penalty games. I don't think we have the fire power for that anymore. We will find a way to win 7-8 games, heck maybe the division . . but excited, nope. And the league has dampered down too, hard to watch now. I am excited to see how our new Dline additions play though and hopefully Turner can play more then a few games this year.

Lol Pelicans.. always start strong and then suck for two thirds of the season.
Injuries, injuries, injuries. Kills them every year they have one of the best rosters in the NBA and they get nowhere because of injuries.

The same thing can happen to the saints should we get Carr hurt or we get another pandemic of injuries on the offensive line. Outside of those two areas I like our depth.

Injuries can derail any season. The way I see it we are due a reprieve from injuries for real this year after the last 2.

I find myself looking forward to football season but not excited about the upcoming Saints season. I watched two of the three preseason games but, to a greater extent than any other year I can ever remember, did not follow closely the training-camp reports. The reasons do not really matter. For me, though I increasingly approve of the Carr signing and believe we are the favorites to win the NFL South, I question whether we have the right coaching staff; believe that our roster overall is one to two levels below what it was a few years ago; believe that were we playing in nearly any other division, we would finish with a losing record; and most discouraging find that we are not an ascending team but a franchise mired in mediocrity.

I have been a member of this forum for almost 25 years. I can be a contrarian and take positions that are not popular. But I do not troll and seriously ask the question of how excited about the Saints season you are, I am interested in seeing whether in a community of Saints fans others share my lack of excitement or are truly excited about the 2023 season. And again this thread raises less the question of whether you should be excited than the question of how excited are you. And regarding the general community, the prices in the secondary ticket markets will be a reflection during the season of how much excitement there is.

PS And for whatever it is worth, I am also not excited about the Pelicans. But I am excited about the LSU football team.
Most excited of the post Brees era. See the Saints as a mid tier contender. What do we have in Carr is the massive unknown.

Not hating on Winston or Dalton but those two aren’t taking you overly far.

I don't think we're as good as we think we are. Our depth is questionable and many of our starters are injury prone. I believe we have a good shot at winning the division if DA proves himself capable.

My excitement with anything NFL died with the "No Call".

What do we have in Carr is the massive unknown.
I won't say what we have in Carr is a massive unknown, as he has 9 years of tape.

Not hating on Winston or Dalton but those two aren’t taking you overly far.
And I think a lot of pundits are putting Carr in the same boat. Hence winning the NFC South in what is see to be a down year but nothing else.

RJ, great post my friend. For me my enthusiasm, or lack thereof, is founded on my love of the Saints since 1967. I vividly remember those decades of bad ownership, poor coaching, dismal drafting and of course our fair share of just plain bad luck! I now take each season more cautiously, although I have always continued to stay involved in the off season happenings.

This year going into week one I am truly cautiously optimistic about this team, but I will keep myself grounded early as I recognize we haven’t played a meaningful game yet in 2023! Now if we can go out strong I can anticipate ill easily revert to the Drew years when winning and excellence was expected!!

My pessimistic side think top 5 offense top 5 defense and playing like the chargers did a decade or so ago with coaching to a 9-8.

My optimistic side says 14 wins... team is loaded and right now relatively healthy in comparison to previous years.

With the strength of this roster and being healthy to boot I should be very excited.....but due to the history of the HC and his staff I'm apprehensive.....wait and see approach......
