I will get flamed for this, but Joe Vitt would not be a bad option if all else fails. I'm not saying promote him. He does know football and has the respect of alot of players. He has been the only one chewing players butts on the sideline for makeing mistakes. He would bring intensity. Like I said .I'm not saying make it happen , Just throwing it out there. I am on the Gregg Williams Bandwagon but we should have heard something by now.

vitt is one of the only coaches i have ever seen on the saints defensive staff that has ever got after the defense's a** on the sideline. even at training camp he was very emotional and in guys faces. one wouldn't think this just by looking at the guy, but he has intensity that this d lacks. if he is what we are left with, i would not be mad at all. one more thing, at least vitt is on the freakin' sideline during games and not hiding in a box somewhere during games. i do not see vitt leaving the saints, new dc or not. i still dont understand why people hate on vitt so much.

this williams thing is looking worse as the days go by. the saints are not his first choice obviously or this thread would not exist. we need to start looking elsewhere just in case, quickly

If Williams does not want to be here then we should move on. This guy is waiting to see what happens in Tenn. b/f accepting the offer; what are the chances he stays with us if he is offered something better (other than a contract, which we still would not get his all). I would like someone who wants to be our DC 100%. It looks like Peyton and Loomis are willing to wait but I WISH we would reach out to other options. If we do not get McDermott or Williams (which could happen) we are back to square 1.

The fact that Williams hasn't signed the deal indicates to me that the Saints want to interview Mcdermott after the Eagles season is done, could be wrong...

I do not mind Vitt if nobody wants the job but I cant believe nobody wants to coach our D. If you can get this D to cause 2 turnovers a game and only give up a average of 20 our O should win almost every game. This is why I think it is important for us to bring in someone that wants to cause pressure and create big plays even if it means 1 big play a game for the team we are playing. Giving up 7 will not matter if we get two turnovers a game and I think tha SP has finally realized that.

The longer he waits the less enthusiastic I am about him. When people take too much time to decide after an offer, they don't really want the job in my experience of hiring a few people.

truck man, who usually has good sources inside the organization, seems to believe we would like to interview McDermott. I have not spoken to anyone who would have knowledge on that matter. But truck man's info in the past has been pretty much spot on.

This is what we know:

1. The Saints have interviewed Gregg Williams.
2. The Saints have contacted Mel Tucker, DC, Cleveland Browns.
3. The Saints have contacted Bob Sutton, DC, New York Jets.

As of right now truck man is the only person in the world who thinks this outside of "message board guy" who also thinks the Saints missed the playoffs because we don't have a 1,000 yard runningback and that Will Smith is a horrible DE.

I'm on board with the "sounds like a good idea" group and it certainly makes sense since he and Payton should at least be familiar with each other with the mutial connection of Andy Reid and the one year they were on the Eagles Staff together in 1998. (Payton was QB coach; McDermott was a scouting administrative coordinator). I just don't see any reason to believe (yet) that it's going to happen. There have already been rumors floating around about McDermott going to Denver, so if New Orleans is a possibility for him why hasn't anything leaked publicly.

I think that McDermott could become an interest if Williams turns us down, but I think that Payton really, really wants Gregg Williams and is willing to be patient and wait for him.

Mike Nolan was hired as Denver's DC.

williams is waiting to see what happens in tennessee. if shwartz goes, then williams will take the tennessee job.

And Schwartz has become the leading candidate for the Lions job, so we'll have to see what happens, but to me it's clear that Williams favors the Titans DC position over ours and is the reason he hasn't signed with us yet. But i don't think McDermott is a bad plan B.
