New Orleans to the southern edge of Atlanta is between 6.5 and 7.5 hours, depending on traffic conditions exiting new orleans, in mobile, montgomery, and atlanta. I've driven it somewhere in the neighborhood 20 times. It takes me 8 hours to get to Athens, and thats about an hour and 15 minutes from Atlanta.

I drive fast but not overly fast. Unless you're a stickler for the speed limit or you run into some bad traffic (which happens) it shouldn't take you 8 hours to get to Atlanta from here.

You are exactly right I have done it in 6 hours when going by myself drove about 90mph the whole way only stoped to get gas.

It takes about 8 hours if you are one to drive the speed limit and like to make stops along the way.

However, you can easily drive there for apprx. 7 hours without traffic issues and such.

We used to drive to Atlanta alot....it's an easy drive.

I once did it in 5 hrs. 45 mins. (from the SW junction of I-85/I-285 to Metairie).

Another time I did it from the NE junction of I-85/I-285 (spaghetti junction) to uptown in 6 hours. Left at noon in Atlanta and made it to my friend's house before he left to go to the Hermes parade that night. I thinkt that one was actually my better time.....

Of course, that was back when I drove sports cars, before I had kids .....

It also depends which way you go, through Mobile or up 59.

I prefer through Mobile and find it faster. However, it really does depend on traffic, what time of day you hit the major cities, especially Atlanta itself, and whether or not you are going to have to stop for gas only.

Personal best: 5 hours, 45 minutes.
Longest: coming up this summer with my 1 year old son, mother, and sister. My guess is 9 hours.

i made the drive A LOT while at clemson. It takes about 7 hours to GET to the OUTSKIRTS of Atlanta, but it can take anywhere from 20 mins to 2 hours to get through atlanta...

its almost exactly eight hours away. i lived there for four years and drove their and back to no at least 20 times.
