Thoughts and observations on the addition of Mark Ingram following today’s trade and watching some of his recent film with the Houston Texans.
STILL HAS JUICE
Don’t be fooled by the 31-year-old’s age or that he didn’t get much action last year in Baltimore. Ingram still has something to provide to a team. He might not be as explosive or strong as he used to be, but he still moves well, can get downhill, and was an effective runner for Houston this season.
Operating behind a better offensive line, Ingram should see his yards per carry jump from the 3.2 he averaged for the Texans. That number by itself looks a little underwhelming, but Ingram repeatedly showed that he could make guys miss and gain yards after contact when he had somewhere to run.
The running back has more big-play highlights through seven games than you might expect. Ingram is still quick enough, strong enough, and explosive enough to get the job done, and, in some moments, he just looks like himself. Perhaps this shouldn’t be a surprise. He’s only topped 200 carries three times in his career, and he only had had 356 combined during his first three seasons. A four-game suspension in 2018 held him to 138 that season, and he topped out at 72 last year for Baltimore. ...
