How would you feel about the Saints signing a QB instead of drafting one? (1 Viewer)

Out of the 4 b mentioned only Bridgewater would come relatively cheap i guess. Out of the 4 he is also the most intriguing talentwise. I think he could be a franchise qb when completely healthy.

Unless we're making a move for Andrew Luck, no way. Plus, i dont really think any of those guys will be willing to sit behind Drew & wait for him to retire. I think the draft has better prospects any ways. Those are dudes who Payton & Drew can mold in their own image. Bridgewater, Keenum, Bortles, & Tannehil are already Bridgewater, Keenum, Bortles, & Tannehil. I think those guys are exactly who they are.

Wouldn't that line of reasoning have also applied to Brees based on his tenure with the Chargers?

The only way I think that they might bring in one of potential starting level QBs is if they don't sign Brees. Even a cheaper QB is expensive these days and that would tie too much cap up in one position.

We may even lose Daniel as he was only willing to sign a smaller contract with us because he still had some guaranteed money coming in from Philly.

At face value, yes. But Drew was already well on his way to becoming a top flight QB when we got him. Those dudes are not. Lucky for us, that labrum injury scared everyone away. As for this year, none of those QBs available; Bridgewater, Bortles, Keenum, Tannehill etc. are even close to a pre-Saint Drew Brees.

If they don’t draft one they really like, then I’d rather they re-sign Daniel on the cheap and then really give Taysom Hill a crack at making a name for himself.

am i crazy to think we should let chase go and roll with taysom? lets be honest.. our run game is great but if drew goes down we're done, nothing i've seen in chase's career shows me that he would be able to win meaningful games and that roster spot and extra $ could be used elsewhere.

I guess we don't really know what we have in taysom so if it was a situation where drew misses 4 games in the middle of the season im sure i would trust chase over him but still.

without looking I agreed with what you said but you might wanna go compare tannehill's numbers with drew's chargers numbers.

the edge goes to tannehill strangely enough.

Not sure why I was getting blasted for proposing a question.

With the salary distribution the way it is going after a flawed, undervalued QB with potential is an intriguing idea to me.

I like that idea more than using a pick on a QB and wasting an opportunity to provide much needed depth to the rest of the team.

I don't have the cap numbers in front of me, not that that would help, so I can't gauge what we can afford and I certainly can't predict the market.

Off the top of my head Bridgewater, Keenum, Cousins, Tannehill, Foles, Bortles, Bradford, Mccarron could all in flux via free agency or trade with at least 4 top QBs incoming in the draft.

There are a lot of guys floating and they all aren't going to get fair value.

with signing brees, we can't afford an FA backup, that would be able to replace him when he moves on.
we have to draft one, or count on Hill to be the qb of the future, with maybe daniel as backup until he's ready.

God help us if we have to depend on Daniels ever starting for us. We never should have gotten rid of McCown.

Aaron Rodgers sat for 3 years behind Brett Favre. Look what he became.

I don't say the Saints will draft a QB in this draft. But they could.

Our problem is that while we've signed a lot of potential QBs, none has developed behind Brees. We can't even find a suitable backup that lasts, much less a credible replacement.

Extend Brees, see how Hill does with extended playing time in preseason, then make a plan for the next year and beyond.
