I like Don Banks, but... (1 Viewer)

I don't think that Matt Millen can help himself and take on OLineman when CJ is still on the board. He gravitates to receivers for some reason. :) Also, how did Adrian Peterson drop so far? A few months ago and he was the consensus first overall pick. Now?

As bad as we've been at LBer lately, I think we're thinner at receiver right now...

Really?

Willis I think is a mortal lock between 10-15 at this point. San Fran and Buffalo specifically.

Olsen is a funny guy. Because there's such a gap between him and the other TEs, he could concievably go anywhere in the back half of the first round and not be a reach. If you need a TE bad, Olsen is your entire short list.

Puz at 14 is high though, I agree. I don't imagine Carolina is going LB anyways unless maybe Willis is there.

I don't expect us to draft a Wide Reciever in the 1st round except, potentially, Ginn Jr. (who has no chance of falling to us at this point) because he potentially provides a Devin Hester-like impact as a KR/PR as well. I don't consider WR a need.

This is all my un-expert opinion though

I think Olsen could go even higher than #23, although I think it is a mistake for the team drafting him. I believe WIllis could even go higher then #12 and I see no way Posluszny goes anywhere close to the #14 slot.

As far as Timmons going to the Saints, I think this is just a case of Banks thinking that the Saints' LBs need to be upgraded so here's one that could go around the #27 pick. I actually think Timmons will go a little higher.

Your opinion, however self-characterized, is sought. Whom would you have taken for the Saints there? You may also theorize trades up or down.

If the CBs are gone, I'd be floored if we don't trade down.

Staley at #20 ?

He has Willis as a CB. Obvious typo but these guys get PAID to guess on draft choices and still goof it up.

I would love for us to move up for Revis. Unfourtantly Banks (correctly probably) has Revis going 15-20 and would be pricey for us to move up and get. It would take at least a 2nd and a 4th, probably a 2nd and a 3rd, to secure Revis. That's awfully expensive.

Considering who he has available, I think either Beason or Timmons would be solid picks. Both have potential as a WLB and MLB in the Saints scheme and give us some secruity/flexibility concerning Brian Simmons age. Plus I doubt any of us are sold on Shanle as a starter at WLB for the next 4 years. I like that they resigned him and am comfortable with him starting there next season, but he could be upgraded.

Also of interest would be Anthony Spencer (situational pass rusher/secruity for Charles Grant)

Given that position i'd love the Saints to trade down but i'm not sure how much value that position would have for anyone.

We would have to package our first and all three 4th round picks to move up to #20, 21...

Just some scenarios for people to chew on

1st/#27 (680) and 2nd/#58 (320) = #16 (1,000)

1st/#27 (680) and 3rd/#88 (150) = #20/#21 (850/800)

1st/#27 (680) and 4th/#123 (49) = #24/#25 (740/720)

So we can jump a couple of spots with a 4th to maybe get someone like Houston or Ross. But to get Revis we'd have to get to #15 at least, which is a 2nd and a 4th.

The sad part for the Lions is that if they took Derrick Johnson a few years ago as I thought they would, rather than Mike Williams, they could have taken Matt Leinart last year, and then could take Joe Thomas, Adrian Peterson, or Calvin Johnson this year.

Then they would be looking at a roster with Matt Leinart / Derrick Johnson / Calvin Johnson instead of Ernie Simms / Mike Williams / Brady Quinn (?)

....if he thinks that if all the man-coverage CBs are off the board that we're going to pass on Bowe at 27 in favor of any linebacker not named Lawrence Taylor, he needs to tweak this mock.

Also, I think he's got guys like Olsen, Willis and Podsz going awful high.

Thoughts?

I wonder if Poz had run 1 tenth of a second faster in his 40 time, if he would be a clear cut top ten pick ala A.J. Hawk.
