I wish Vilma would stop broadcasting Saints games (1 Viewer)

I agree with OP. Mainly because his take on things is not helpful or even odd.

On the play Kamara scored a TD on an amazing one handed catch at full speed (and injured his groin), Vilma was obsessing about it not being a catch because Vilma's brain for some dang reason couldn't compute that Kamara had one handed possession and so got two feet down.

In fact, it was one of the best one handed catches of the season in the NFL, and by a RB, on a ball that must have been thrown 40 yards in the air diagonally across the field, by a WR. A better broadcaster might have focused on that and given Kamara his props.

I think they're decent - like someone said, they're the third team, but I think they're good together and he's a fine analyst.

Coincidentally, I was at breakfast Saturday morning downtown and Vilma and Kenny Albert sat next to me. I heard him mention to the other person they were with that this is their fifth season together. I do think they work well together.

Vilma is a smart guy, he was academic all-american at Miami and graduated with a finance degree from the business school.

Don't think you'll get the best announcers available when you only have 5 wins.

I don't even think of him as a ex saint when he do games he's just like the other talking heads that do saints games.
Then he’s doing his job well and like you’d expect a Vilma to do his job. Ofc he loves the Saints, but he’s got a job to do, and that job requires him not to sound like a Po’d fan, on every 50/50 call. Imagine being the fan of the other team in that scenario. Lol. You be like who’s this biased jerk!

B. He seems really biased against the Saints for some reason and it's super annoying.

Just curious, what are some examples of things he said to make you think he's "biased against the Saints"? If you're referring to the Kamara TD as 1 example.....then I think that was more of a brief brain fart on his part, forgetting that the 1 hand on the ball could still count as possession with 2 feet coming down. I didn't get the vibe that he was actively wanting it to be incomplete.

He always finds ways to discuss certain things about his time with the Saints (such as being there when Cam Jordan was drafted, and his evolution as a player).......but without clogging up too much of the broadcast with it.

Lastly.........at the end of the day, being a football player is still a job. Many fans seem to think someone who played for their team and had success should forever 100% be a cheerleader at all times for that team. Don't know what your current career or job situation is, or how far into it you are, but do, or did, you always love everything about it? Of course Vilma has great memories with the Saints, but there were plenty of not-so-great moments either....such as losing to a 7-9 team in a Wildcard game.......the 2011 divisional round loss to Frisco....Bountygate (which his name got unflatteringly thrown around ALOT in), etc.

Yeah, I am a normal person that realizes that an announcer should be unbiased and can't be a cheerleader for their former team. Good point about the Cam Jordan segment, that was really well done.

To be honest, I can't remember examples of things he said but I have been noticing anything that happens in the games (not just yesterdays) that's a 50/50 call (penalties, etc.) and Vilma feels like he has to state a strong opinion, I've noticed his opinion goes for the other team (wrongly?) and its been building up in my mind. And yes, the Kamara TD was the crowning moment of these.

I like Vilma and he's not a bad broadcaster, I'm sure my homer-ism does play into it to some degree, but I just wish he would not do Saints game is all.

I don’t mind Vilma His presentation is fine. He has a personality and He knows football way better than some.

He has to be objective when he's calling these games. It only seems like bias to you because you are ironically expecting him to be biased in favor of the Saints, but it doesn't work that way. Whether you like him as a broadcaster or not is a different story.
