Ian Book reminds me of a young Brees (1 Viewer)

Ian Book is a classic west coast (Jeff Garcia) kind of QB. He is not a let it fly type QB ie Farve, Winston, even Brady or Brees. He would avg. about 26 points a game instead of 30, but with less turnovers. He may have to open up his game a bit in the NFL, but he dosn't make a lot mistakes. He is never going to light it up for 4, 5 passing TD games. That's not his game. What is Book's game, is being the "point guard" spreading the ball around to the play makers. He really knows how to work the talent.

He sets the WRs, TEs, and RB's up for success. He has very good pocket awareness, and can be very elusive. I saw some film on him getting pressure up the middle, and Book showed a back peddle move that would leave a DB coach drooling. Some say he misses open receivers down field, but I think he is showing restraint not to take risks. That is very hard to teach. I know Sean can open up his game a bit, but he checks a lot of boxes. But, does he have an NFL arm? That's what we need to find out.

& to add, via an article I just read on neworleanssaints.com..

By the Book

Book, a rookie from Notre Dame, has had his ups and downs during the first 10 practices, and Monday there was no exception. He has thrown a couple of interceptions (to be expected as a rookie), but he has also shown to be pretty accurate, something which Book mentioned after Monday's practice that he really prides himself on. Saints Coach Sean Payton also mentioned that he has been encouraged by Book even though it's early in camp. He has made plays either by air or by land every day. Book responded after that early interception by Wallace to throw back-to-back touchdown passes in the final Red Zone team drill of the morning. He found fellow rookie Kawaan Baker on a sweet throw just inside the front right pylon for a touchdown, then on the very next throw tight end Juwan Johnson snagged a deep slant in the back of the end zone that was zipped in there by Book. If Book continues to get better every day, he will definitely vie for that QB3 spot.

.. LOVE IT!!.. the more I read and study about this guy, the more i'm thinking our future #1 is already in the house.. this young man has it all in front of him.. can't wait to watch him in pre-season.. & that title to the article "By the Book".. LoL.. it fits!

Pump the breaks on comparing him to a 1st ballot hall of famer until he makes the 53 man roster at least.

he seems very interested, very smart and the IT factor to play in the NFL; but there’s still loads of things he needs to accomplish before getting anywhere near Drew Brees comparisons.

I’d say the first few steps are making the team (not practice squad) and earning the #2/3 QB spot. Our playbook is fairly complex, we are in a terrible spot if we are expecting a rookie to come in and manage that.

.......not gonna lie, that sounds like what Brees was doing in THIS offense.

Payton can win with a Winston and get production out of Hill which says so much about the HOF in the making Coach we have coaching the Saints.

Payton sees Book as a player similar to the one he's coached to a HOF career and thinks his skillset fits what this offense does and needs from it's signal caller.

Here is where he reminds me of Drew. He seems to be highly competitive and a winner. Not many people believed in him coming into the draft.

Right now that's about it. Let's see where it all goes.

Have you seen his interviews?

That's where he really reminds me of Brees. Similar mannerisms and style with the way he presents himself and talks to the press.
