and truly give effort and win games (not saying 7-0, or even 5-2 maybe 4-3) does Coach Rizz get a true evaluation? Just win the games we are supposed to and not look like we belong in a sub league. A part of me wants to move on and start from scratch, but I also love his tenacity and excitement on the sideline. I wont be upset either way, unless we go back to the BS style of Allen. I think the players love seeing their coach get hype just as much as the fans do. My worry is DA tarnished any real chance Rizz might have had as our HC.

If Rizzi gets 5 wins total during his tenure, the team plays with high energy, and eliminates boneheaded mistakes...he'll get a serious interview.

Things to watch that will have an impact: The Cowboys are absolutely collapsing. McCarthy will be fired. It will be an attractive HC position for a coach we may want.

The Bear are also collapsing and fans are calling for Eberflus's head. They have a lot of talent and will also be in the market.

I say that to say this: Rizzi has a better shot if the hot candidates (Ben Johnson/Aaron Glenn) choose those, possibly, more attractive situations

We need to do an extensive interview process this time, I like Rizzi but there are better candidates out there and we need to do a real coaching search this time around.
I dont disagree. Wish he would have got the call instead of DA.

Now if the players come out in support for Rizz do you leave him a top the list while interviewing others?

Let's say he's got the head coaching mettle and has the emotional connection player-relationship wise.
If they do not retain him as HC, then he'll get hired as a HC somewhere else. Saints will have developed and showcased a head coach and then "farmed him out," the same way Mickey loses his good and developing first-contract guys who go to other teams and do well.

Darren Rizzi did something yesterday with a lesser roster I don't think DA ever did - simply beat a good team. They held the lead, and overcame Kamara's drop. Finally, the bad juju happened to Koo and them.

We need Rizzi to succeed, stay, and get us through the unavoidable years of cap rehab.

honestly, i don't trust Rizz on his punting finds and picks much less rebuilding our future. He's the perfect short term guy. but don't be fooled into longterm solutions.

If the players buy in and we go >.500 the remainder of the schedule, then he’s a serious candidate. You still conduct a true coaching search, but he is at the top of the list. And, you be transparent with him. “Hey, we made a mistake by hiring DA without conducting a legitimate search. We owe it to ourselves and our fan base to make sure we do our due diligence this time around. That said, you have earned an interview and you’re a legitimate candidate. We just have to make sure we are hiring the right person.”

I love Rizz's fire. Its exactly the player/coach connection that was missing with DA. Its easy to make a splash when the league isn't prepared. These next couple of weeks will be the test for him as teams learn what he's got and prepare for it. Saints probably would have beaten most teams yesterday. You see it almost every time where the coach is fired and the team rides the high of the interim to a first game victory. The good thing is the Saints have strong player leaders and a solid culture. So this could look like a good team down the stretch if Rizz can keep the momentum. The big question will be is he a good strategist? He can motivate, but can he scheme? It was the opposite with DA.

The formula for Rizzi to be the HC in 2025 is that he has to beat teams with winning records. Just beating the weak teams isnt enough

If he gets buy in and the players continue to play that hard, first you sit down with the players and get their true honest opinion, no coaches in the room.

Then you get with the offensive guys and see if they feel changes need to be made offensively to the coaching staff, same with defensive guys.

It’s obvious the strength and conditioning staff needs an overhaul, unless the injuries really was about DA and his dumbarse “warm up if you want” approach.

If they continue to play hard and the players are bought in, then I have no problem with Rizzi at all, as long as we give him the best supporting cast as possible. Harbaugh in Baltimore is a former ST coach that’s one of the best HC’s in the league, so ST’s coaches can make great HC’s

I know people will disagree with me, but the greatest Head Coach in NFL history to date got his start on Special Teams.

He’s definitely got fire. I like him. I’m sure there are better candidates and I hope we earnestly pursue them and don’t do a half-search because we think we have the guy in-house though. If we get through all of that and he’s the clear winner though, then I’d be happy with that.

Time will tell. Hard to know how much of the energy today was simply due to having a change period vs it being due to Rizzi himself. But he’s starting out as good as you can ask for. I was impressed that he immediately called out Payton Turner postgame for celebrating too early. I don’t think DA ever really did any kind of public facing accountability like that (and if he did, he had such little charisma that it didn’t stick out) and it was sorely needed at times. Rizzi seems like he has that “biting kneecaps” energy that Dan Campbell has and it’s just nice to see.
