If Will Campbell is there do you take him and move him or Trevor to guard? (1 Viewer)

This is an awful, terrible idea. You might as well just get rid of Penning at that point. Tackle and Guard play vastly different. It's like moving a RB to WR, or WR to RB. Just because both are ball handlers doesn't mean they can do it.

Your trying to start Pennings career all over again. He goes back to be a rookie and very well may not succeed there so you essentially replaced a position that had a good player when you have holes in quite literally every other position on the team.

This is a move I would expect the Al Davis Raiders or the Cleveland Browns to make. Or even the 0-16 Detroit Lions. There is just simply nothing logical about it.

There is also no reason to suspect Campbell will succeed as Guard.

Just hand your 1st pick away to another team that will actually make use of it so your not ruining the careers of players.

For all the talk about how awesome Campbell is, I just don't see it. I remember him giving up pressures at the worst possible time. Whether that is his short arms or his lack of technique, for a sure-fire 1st round tackle, I just do not see the allure.
Yeah I don't recall him playing that well last season....not that I purely focused on his play, but in general, he seemed to struggle at times

I didn't purely focus on his play, but I played Offensive Tackle back in my day, so I pay closer attention to offensive line play than most. I was excited for LSU at the beginning of the Season with all of the talk about Book-End 1st round tackles, but I never saw the dominance materialize for all the bluster. Perhaps I had unrealistic expectations, but I saw Nussmeier running for his life against Bama and Florida.

I don't see why everyone keeps acting like Penning isn't upgradeable. You don't move him to anywhere but the bench. He's a backup RT at best

Almost all NFL projections for him are at OG due to his short arms.

I think he would help solidify our line at LG.
I would trade back to get him since he seems to be sliding to a later 1st round draft pick.

We could use the extra 2nd round pick to hopefully get another starter to fill another of our many holes...

Bad idea. He'll likely perform nowhere near expectations to draft position. He's known to struggle with lateral blocks. This is imperative to guards. You have to deal with stunts, be able to slide into position for blitzes and several other things, much of which happens to be tagged as a weakness.

In truth, he probably should either stay at LT or move to RT. But he shouldn't go inside. I don't care what anyone says.

In this, I'm going to agree with ElliasJWilliams. If we have to draft him you put him at RT and move Penning to the bench. You can try Pennings hand at LG, but he's likely going to be a liability there.

I personally would rather spend that pick on a skill position and upgrade Oline in the 2nd/3rd round considering how much draft capitol we've already put there. We could get an upgrade for RT in the 2nd or 3rd and get an FA for LG

There isn't a player on the 2024 Saints that isn't upgrade-able...but

5 sacks & 4 QB hits in over 1000 snaps this year...

You are joking... right?
Those stats require context.

How much help was he getting?
How many of those protections had him blocking 1 on 1?
How many of those protections had him turning his man inside and picking up the least threatening rusher?

There were a lot of things that scheme did to protect him, while the guy who truly had the 1 on 1's was Fuaga.

So to respond to your question...am I joking No....are you? Or do you truly believe those stats tell the full story?
