I'm not sure who will trade for Carr

First thing I did was look at the date of the post because I thought it might be an old thread. I think the ship has sailed on trading/cutting Carr, but idk the details of his contract or anything really surrounding the possibility lol.

But I don’t think the team being in cold weather matters much as the Saints were competing with NYJ for his services a couple years ago.

The Saints management has consistently messaged that they are much higher on Carr than most of the fanbase. It just is what it is at this point.

I'm not saying we will trade him, but if Rodgers tells the steelers no they're gonna be desperate and that's the only place I can see wanting to trade for him. We probably wont get much of anything for him if we trade except possibly getting rid of some of the hit he is to our cap.

He can't be traded/cut until june 1st, after that it's manageable and it's the same thing cap wise for us if he's cut or traded. Any team trading for him this year would get a starting QB costing 1.2M with a team option for 50M next year. I think that has value. A starting QB goes down for a contender during the training camp/preseason and we have a potential trading partner. We traded a 3rd round pick for Teddy B in 2019, might be copium but I feel like we could get that (in this hypothetical scenario where we draft a QB high and want to get rid of Carr 1 year early)

Question about post 6/1 release - 2026 dead cap hit - is the entire $59 million due or can it be split?

Entire 59M would count on the 2026 cap; in that scenario the dead cap (79M) is already split : 20M in 2025 and the rest in 2026.

If 59M is too much dead cap to eat in 1 year I think we have 2 options :

1. He's our QB in 2026 as well and we stop restructuring his contract
2. Post june 1st designation in the 2026 offseason. For that to work we would need to carry his cap hit (currently 69M) until june 1st 2026 but I think we could potentially negotiate with him. Like, here's a 1M signing bonus, in exchange you drop your 40M base salary to 1M and you're now a free agent. That way we would carry his renegotiated cap hit of around 30M till june 1st, and after that it would be the dead cap (59M + 1M) split between 2026 and 2027.

Yup, unless it's some kind of weird misdirection they seem to think Carr is the best QB this coming season to give us a chance to win at this point....

A trade now would mean taking his entire cap hit including future dead money. There is no way to be under the cap with that so the league won’t approve the trade.

San Francisco
Just throwing it out there.
