Ingram looking forward to playing with Reggie Bush (1 Viewer)

Reggie even as a receiver, would still have been a 1st rounder! He's not a power back, nor was he meant to be. Duece before being hurt was an all around , every down back! The 2 were used artfully together the first year! Reggie and Ivory or Ingram would be about the same, maybe another Thunder an Lighting! Either way there's gonna be fresh legs throughout the game! What a good problem to have!

Perhaps I am in the minority but I dont think there is much Reggie or PT can teach Ingram about running the football. Quite the opposite actually. Now there may be other information which is NFL only like the 16 game season and how to prepare for it. Stuff like that sure.

wait, what now?

You're not being serious, right?

You're talking about the man who 99% of sports fans and analysts said should have been the #1 overall pick versus a guy who would've fallen out of the first round had we not traded up to get him.

Reggie was compared to Gale Sayers before coming into the draft. He was expected to completely change the face of this franchise... Reggie was one of the best college football players in history and his hype reflected this.

the OP's point was that the pressure was far greater on deuce (who was entrenched in his position) than it is on reggie
- at the time we were just happy to have a team - noone really cared what the record would be - we all expected maybe 4 wins??
the expectations now are for another superbowl - not even close to similar situations

yes deuce and his pre-twitter, mississippi country boy self handled the situation better than all twittery, all hollywood all espn & sr up his butt reggie but the situations are REALLY different, so comparisons are essentially pointless

Per NFL.com

We remember how Ricky Williams was an absolute arse when Deuce came aboard; didn't mentor him at all. :jpshakehead:

But when the Saints drafted Bush (in '06), and with FAR MORE HYPE than Ingram has received, Deuce showed how he was a "class act" by welcoming and mentoring Reggie. And despite being injured, Deuce carried a heavy load, and '06 was one of his best seasons.

Fast-forward to today. Reggie has an opportunity to rise above the childish attitudes that some athletes have today. <s>My</s> Our hope is that Reggie helps Ingram with a smooth transition. If he does, our running game will be off the chain (without the distraction and drama)!

:gosaints:

I know Bush is more fun to talk about but I'll say it again, Bush isn't the guy we should be keeping our eye on.... It's Thomas... How does Thomas react to Ingram is the question. How much will Thomas help mentor the rookie...

There isn't a player in NFL history who has coming into the league with more hype than Reggie Bush. The OP is right.

EVERY year there's another player coming out with a ton of hype...

I don't recall it this past draft but every year there are a couple of "once a decade" player that comes out..

Bush did have a ton of hype tho..

Anyone think PT will be way more of a Mentor than Reggie? Reggie is still making childish statements and being a bit of a head case after 5 years. Not that he can't help Ingram get the playbook, but I see PT being more of a mentor. As a Bama fan I can tell you Ingram is a humble dude and reminds me a lot of PT. Plus their styles are "closer" to each other than Reggie is to Ingram. Again, Reggie is only a few weeks removed from making ill advised, whiny statements. He is no where near mature as Deuce was, nor may he ever be. PT just seems to have a better chance of being a true mentor, IMHO.

You'll get neg rep'd but your right. Can Reggie teach protection-sure. When it comes to running the ball Reggie is the last person you want to learn from. If you want to truly know how to run behind this line.....see Ivory.

Justify "head case" please and what do you mean by "still".... Just feel like you're jumping into the conversation at the end... Bush has never been a head case and he made a couple of insignificant comments on twitter that got everyone riled up... How is he a head case?

your right, but the one thing duece and reggie have in common is both are team players and will do whats best for the team.. if we keep him.

if i remember correctly, jamarcus russell had a good bit of hype surrounding him....who knew that he would be a great purple drink salesman

25 posts and nobody's made fun of the thread title? Come on man! You guys are slipping. :)

Jumping into the conversation at the end? Really? My comment was on the first page, so LOL @ that. By head case I mean he comes off like a guy who needs attention and coddling. You didn't see PT making statements on twitter the whole time he was looking for a contract. He never bashed Reggie or the money he was getting. Why? Because he and Bush are two different guys.

My opinion of Bush is he a good guy, does good things for kids and the community but still is prone to making immature statements and speaking before thinks. How many times has Reggie had to say "I'm sorry" for comments he made. It hasn't just been this year. He's a grown man now, 5 years removed from being drafted but he doesn't always act like it. Not to mention we're talking about someone who in the 80 games he has been eligable to play in, he's played in 40. Most guys with that stat would probably be keeping their head down and not trying to cause a stir.

I hope we keep him and I hope he continues to grow up, he just seems to be slow to mature and as of now doesn't strike me as the mentor type. Too young minded still, IMO.

All he needs to do is get rid of twitter.

if reggie would have fallen to the jets what kind of career do you think he would have had thus far? i wonder if had that happened and he had the same excat success as he has had with n.o. would the present public perception of him be different? would he still be the "bust" that so many idoits claim he is today?
