Injuries on Oline - that’s all the analysis needed (1 Viewer)

Your first comment makes zero sense, I had zero issues with them hiring DA, I was not in love with the choice but it made sense. I always knew he would get a second year, but after a point you get tired of the excues.

As for the first two weeks, I was excited because I want the team to win, everyone that's on this site wants them to have success.

Are you really going to just pretend like the Eagles and Falcons where not winnable games, and just throw your hands up and say its the Oline, give me a break we should have won those freaking games PERIOD. But lets just give them a pass because reasons.

You can keep making up excuse for them...I will not.
if you had the choice between a healthy Oline and a new HC which would you take?

A healthy Oline of course. People that are upset with the coaching staff and the failures don't want the team to fail. I was rooting for Allen and Carr to prove me wrong.

If you think Allen and Carr or the answer and its just bad injury luck that's cool, but I don't buy it. Have injuries played a part in the 3 gaming losing streak, without a doubt yes. There not the only reason we lost in my opinion.

When your fighting through injuries the best thing that can happen is to win games while the team is trying to get healthy and we had two very win able games that we let slip right through are fingers. To me that is more on the coaches. Its poor game planning, it a lack of ability to adjust and it's a culture that has started to form where we can't win close games. I don't trust this team, maybe if things are perfect all the time like the first two games they can win, but an NFL season is never perfect and the teams that make it to the playoffs and beyond are the ones that win the hard games.

and it's why this is almost a perfect online debate topic - i think if we were on 6 game winning streak and the injuries happened, few would argue for coaching (and QB change)
but 2 wins is not enough for a representative sample
BUT
we all saw a substantive change in the first two game
both sides have a compelling argument

and tbc, and like i've said several times in the thread, no one is saying a healthy Oline means a 17-0 team
but it might very well be the difference between 11-6 and 6-11

The Saints could well be 4-1 if McCoy and Ruiz were healthy. They opened the Philly game strong, and the Eagles (who were also trying to win the game) adjusted their attack to get after the interior OL’s weakness

The run game has been tough sledding in the 2.5 games since McCoy went down, which was not helped by Ruiz and Patrick also having injuries

The Saints have a good starting 5 OL, maybe not the cream of the crop but certainly a capable group who allow Kubiak to run the offense he wants

Expecting to have seven or eight starting-caliber linemen is just unrealistic. It’s not an excuse or an attempt to shift blame, it’s unimpeachable reality - eight weeks ago when everyone wanted to move on from Penning, my thought was “the coaching staff would have to see a player they know well to get cut from his team to even explore making any changes” - no moves were made, they rolled Fuaga-Patrick-McCoy-Ruiz-Penning, and it worked

Now 2 of them aren’t there and the third is playing through his stuff

Welcome to the NFL

:gosaints:

Yep. He’s not wrong.

Nice to see the old feller as I thought it was stuff in the belly button time when he can’t post.

Anyhow, just enjoy the ride. It’s just a game. 😊
Silver lining is if the team can overcome injuries and grab a wildcard spot they could have a decent playoff run.

The Saints will be stuck in purgatory. They won't be bad enough to get top draft choices. They won't be good enough to get anywhere in the playoffs. They won't commit to a rebuild so they will keep kicking the salary cap problems down the road.

I hear what you are saying and mostly agree….BUT, the NFL season is long and things change, players come back healthy, and DA isn’t going anywhere, so I’m still clinging to the hope that they will prove me wrong….We will see…..

period
We have a decent Oline we have a decent chance to win this game
We have a decent Oline we win last 2 weeks
The season turned when McCoy (then Ruiz) went down
Period

Yes, other positions (Dline) struggle- that’s normal football stuff- they’re not helping

But the reason we’re losing is our Oline is ravaged by injuries
Period
We need Taysom or a healthy OL. We are cooked if we don't have one or the other. Taysom keeps defenses honest. Spags couldn't have called all those blitzes with Taysom behind center or in the backfield. Just bad injury luck.

I love TH but the notion that this offense is so dependent on a 34 year old RB/TE/QB hybrid is just…..hopelessly wishful…..bordering on insanity….
