Interesting Stat Line (1 Viewer)

That stat comparison is missing context. Carr didn’t complete 2 quarters of one game. He played injured in the following game. Dalton also had a lot of garbage time yards in his 4th start vs Arizona last season.

The pass yards would look like 1550+ vs 1385 if Carr was available and healthy in that 1.5 game stretch against GB and TB. It’s really 1299 in 5.5* (4.5 healthy) starts vs 1385 in 6 starts.

Dalton did have better RZ efficiency through 6 games. We utilized a healthy TE in the RZ a lot more with Dalton. Taysom’s runs also helped Dalton get to inside the 10 a lot.

The pass plays called with Dalton last year doesn’t look the same as the plays for Carr this season. There were more shorter-intermediate routes ran for the first down sticks with Dalton, compared to these nonstop deep vertical routes called with Carr on short downs and out of range for the first down marker.

My honest opinion is that we would have been way better off rolling with Dalton or Winston and using that money to hire 2-3 legit offensive linemen.

No offense to Carr. He is as good as those other guys, but I am not sure he is actually better than either.

150 million… vs 3million… 2022 vs 2023 all factors remain just about the same. 🤔

... and did you know that PFF rated Dalton higher than Joe Burrow?!?!?!?!?

And Patrick Mahomes first 6 games: 1593 yards 11TDs 5 INTs, 3 million vs 450 million....

You are onto something!!!!!!!!

Here are the Average Annual Value of these QB contracts:
D. Carr - 37.5M
Winston - 14M
Dalton - 5M

I gave a range of 25-30M as what we should pay for Carr. I think we overpaid, but that’s the QB market. He gives us potential to win the division and maybe a playoff game.

Winston is interesting. He missed most of 2 seasons with injuries. I almost wish we offered him a 1 year extension for 12-14M, took Denver’s 1st rounder next year for Payton, and drafted a rookie QB in 2024. But we lose the Breese pick, maybe stumble into the playoffs, and basically playing for 2025.

Dalton isn’t taking anyone to the playoffs. Resigning him is committing to losing/rebuild and wastes Davis and Jordan’s last years. Dalton would be doing worse this year behind a worse OL.

Carr should've been on a prove it deal. We bid against ourselves again

What’s the comparable deal that Carr should play on? Is it Winston’s 2yr, 28M at 14M AAV. Is it Garopollo’s deal for 1yr, 33M but kinda a 3yr, 73M at 24M AAV? I think that price sees a bunch more suitors for Carr - Bucs, Jets, Colts, Titans, Giants.

Carr’s contract can be viewed as a 3-yr, 100M deal or 33M AAV. I think it’s 10-12% over ideal, but being the first FA domino has a premium.

1yr 19.6M would've been fair for Carr given the "perceived" upgrade over JW at 14M.

For all the talk about Winston not having a market....Carr didn't have one either, it was us and the Jets (who were just really trying to keep up appearances to leverage Rodgers)...and Carolina was bent on drafting a QB. We didn't even try to leverage that info. At least it looks like we didn't try to leverage that.

It makes me cringe because looking back, there was an article that came out that had Andy Dalton ranked as the 25th best QB in the NFL. Carr was the 24th and we all got defensive.

Looks accurate now

At 20M the Bucs, Titans, or Giants sign him. Heck JimmyG is getting 1yr 33M. That’s not a realistic price and how you get JW, Dalton, or those other teams leftovers.

Carr is a better option than Mayfield, Jones, or Tannehill.
