I try my best not to be unrealisticly optimistic, but I would have to say, at some point last night it finally hit me. We've had a d@mn good off-season.

If Vilma and Morgan both have complete recoveries, our front sevent will be lethal.

I know Morgan has an injury history straight from a Stephen King novel, but.....If he does recover, the risk-reward cant be overstated. I think the good thing was, he injured his achilles, and hasn't played full contact football in a good while, so any worstening of his previous concussion symtpons should be less likely.

But for real.

McCray, Grant, Thomas/Young, Smith
Morgan, Vima, and Fujita

Add Gay to the secondary, and I must say, we already have a new look defense, even before the draft (of course I'm not saying we dont need to draft defense).

All things considered, we can't say Mickey and Sean aren't putting forth the effort.

If Morgan and Vilma are completely healthy, we could/should see drastic improvements on our defense.

It could actually be scary.......Awesome scary!!!!!

I still think we should draft Mayo in the second round as an insurance poilcy for the MLB and WLB positions since he can play either one.

haha wow a little slow moment huh? ;) but yeah i agree with you if Vilma and Morgan are healthy then we will have an amazing LB corp

dude looks to be a monster if he can stay out on the feild...

The front office did a good job with available market.

I putting my high hopes on Coach Orgeron and our defensive line. Grant and Smith will return to form. McCray will give us another weapon. Also counting on Orgeron getting the maximum out of Thomas, Young, Lake and Clancy. And a playmaker can be found in the draft.

Nothing wrong with a little optomism, dispite what the pessimist on this board may think, we didnt sign and or trade for these guys thinking they wouldnt be able to play, we didnt sign Morgan until last week after a couple weeks of talking to him, so were not throwing darts in the dark, we did our homework on these guys and dispite the concussion problem from Morgan, it was the Achillis tear (partial) that ended his 07 season, not a concussion, so with that he has had a long time to heal (head and achillis) both should be ready for Camp, so i'm looking forward to this new Saints D...and we all know the there is a possiblilty that Vilma and Morgan injuries may hold them back, but its not a high risk thing, there coming off injuries so ofcourse there is a "possibility"...just like there is a possibility a healthy player gets hurt...I like the moves, I thought there were smart.

At the end of the Bears game, if someone would have asked,

"How would you feel about adding Jonathan Vilma and Dan Morgan to our LB group, I would have thought it promising, but highly unlikely. You know, one of those situations that fans usually make up scenarios, and post in threads, that seems like a hopeless dream.

We will know where we stand in the graces of the "Football Gods", come mid-August, when we have a legit injury status of both of our newly aquired LB's.

Recently read, Morgan had 25 Tackles in the Super Bowl of 2004 vs. New England., Wow!!!

Thats more than 35% of the total tackles Simoneau had all last season.

Please be healthy.

Oh my, God. That song is one of the most atrocious things I have ever heard in my life....and I used to teach beginning band. :covri:

And I think Grant will still play most of his snaps at DE.

i had to cut it off and fast foward it... i just couldn't take it

with the OP though, i agree.. with what we had to work with and noticing our needs i think we got great value..

add Ellis or Dorsey (trading up to snag em) and another CB in the 2nd (hopefully Reggie Smith is still there...it's possible!) and I will be beside myself with excitement

Geaux Saints! Bring on the season!

I agree we've had a very good off-season so far, and I agree that the two LBers have plenty of upside. I think Vilma is far less of a risk than Morgan, but Morgan is a great playre if he can stay on the field.

However, despite all the talk on the boards, Grant is not moving inside to play DT. Payton said so in press conferences. Doesn't mean he won't do it now and then for a change up, but McCray is going to alternate in with Grant and Smith at DE. That's the main plan, not to move one of our current DEs inside nor to trade one of them. This helps our line immensely because whenever Grant or Smith come out for a play, the guy going in is just as good at getting pressure.
We still need DT help and I, like most, await the draft to see how the Saints will plug that hole.

I'd give the saints a C+ on this offseason and that is all. The facts remain that every single one of the new players comes with some type of serious question mark. Vilma and Morgan are coming off injuries, Gay had NE's system and talent around him, and McCray was solid but not great in Jacksonville (where he played along side some great talent).

I hope they all pan out and this D goes to a whole new level but Gibbs is still there and all the other guys are what ifs?

We also lost Faine (even though he didn't deserve the contract he got) and that will hurt the already thin line on O.
