They are tasked with defending the country from foreign country's attacking with military forces. Not terrorists attacking from within. It is the job of border agents, FBI, CIA, and such to stop terrorists from entering the U.S. and attacking from within.

Mimicry is one of the things common in UFO lore, where the phenomenon mimic's prosaic tech or close enough to prosaic tech. Another explanation could be Hologram principal which states that a NHI(Non-Human Intelligence) existing on a higher plane in a different dimension is projecting UFO's that look like conventional craft we see everyday.

When all the UAP stuff first started ramping up one of my theories was that they are being projected via satellite, which is how they can maneuver and manners that don't seem physically possible.
