Jake Haener’s snaps in the Chiefs game (2 Viewers)

I think he can make something work due to Haeners mobility. I don't think Carr is going to play. My understanding from my brief reading of his injury is that it will affect his ability to throw deep with any power and since that seems to be the only passing plays that scores points, it's kind of important.

I didn't hear that it was physically stopping him from throwing deep. Unfortunately, I'm not sure that keeps him out of the game but it should. And I would like to see this offense run with a more mobile QB, but I also don't think Haener is ready. If Carr is out, or injured to where he can't throw some deeper routes, then Kubiak is going to have to work some magic against the Bucs. But, that doesn't seem likely given the number of points they have scored the last few weeks even with a healthy Carr at QB.

Maybe he will stop throwing 50/50 balls and throw more deliberate back-shoulder ones.

The TV guys were wrong. He wasn't throwing a 50/50 ball. He was trying to throw it out of bounds but he didn't get enough on it so it came up short. Even Carr wouldn't intentionally throw a 50/50 ball to a 6' 180 lbs. WR covered by two guys.

Yea I couldn’t stop laughing at how a former NFL QB and HOF could be so stupid to think that’s what Carr was doing there. Aikman is a fool.

I should have been more clear that I didn't mean Carr's specific injury, but oblique injuries for passers in general. I've read that rotational power goes from the legs, through the oblique, to the arm and finally out of the hand. A tear simply removes that power transfer from the legs to the arm. Fortunately, it sounds like it's usually only a couple of weeks healing on minor tears but could be a bit longer if it's a major tear. It sounds like he tried to throw on the sideline and it didn't work out. The MRI today should reveal the severity and give some guidance on what his status is.

I think Aikman eventually sort of corrected him and said something like "he was trying to throw it away but got hit making it come up short or maybe like your theory he was throwing up a 50/50 ball", but yeah he went along with it on the initial call and didn't correct it like he should have.

If Carr can’t play and we start Haener, that let’s me know that we want to lose. The better QB is behind him.

IMO it's not about who is the better player, it's about Rattler's development and whether starting him behind this OL would help that development or hinder it. And while Rattler has long term higher upside than Haener, Haener with a year in the NFL and an offseason working with Gruden, may be the guy more ready to start an NFL game right now than Haener. Things are very different in the regular season than they are in the preseason. Lots more disguised coverages and disguised blitzes than Rattler has ever seen before. Not to mention actual starting caliber NFL players.

If he plays next week against the Bucs they will eat him alive. It is what it is at this point with Carr's injury and I just hope it is not more than a game or two.

If by chance Taysom and Ruiz is back. I would disagree.. but we aren't injury lucky at all.

He also played at a time when the defense was probably not as aggressive. Keep us in bounds, run the clock out, and go home.

True, but it was nice to see a guy out there that could move around, almost run for a first down, and throw on the run when he doesn't have a great pocket. Carr is the better player right now, but it made Carr's limited mobility and inability to throw on the run in this offense glaringly obvious.

There is a guy in SF who was a late round draft pick QB whom Kubiak has worked with and he came in and did pretty well. You mentioned Preseason isn’t the same as regular season, yet Rattler looked better than Haener even in Preseason. What does that tell you ?

I fear for our backup QBs being as small as they are. This makeshift oline is going to get them killed.

Aikman is a fool and a tool...and highly overrated as a QB in my opinion. He was QB on what was a great team for a while. Mind you, 2 of his SBs came prior to the salary cap and the last was the year after it was introduced. So his SB winning teams were bought and paid for.

He had almost a many Ints as TDs in his career and had a 81% passer rating.

The average of all these takes thus far is that Rattler will be more ready next season, Haener will need some specialized scheming by KK to succeed, Carr is like a car capable of making it only to 55 mph., and the playoffs probably aren’t happening this year. The injury situation would’ve had to stay perfect for it to happen.

It tells me next to nothing. I really like Rattler as future player, but he could use a year of watching NFL defenses and NFL game plans up close to help with reading defenses and what other teams will try to do to confuse a young QB. In preseason with essentially no game planning on either side and backup players all over the field, pure talent like Rattler's is going to shine. So it's not at all surprising that Rattler looked better in preseason. And maybe Rattler is more ready that Haener now, but neither of us have the information to make that decision.

Beyond that, I'm not sure if it helps Rattler long term to start him now. It could really hurt his development if he learns bad habits and bad decision making behind this patch work OL. And I don't really care about the now, this team is going nowhere this year with either Rattler or Haener. We have far too many injuries for a rookie or Haener to have success. The only chance this team has this year is for Carr and the OL to get healthy.

Not every late round pick QB is the next Purty or Brady. Most QBs take quite awhile to learn and be ready to start. Mahomes sat and that time helped him become the QB he is. Lots of other QBs sat too.

What’s the difference between Rattler and rookie QBs starting now that are successful? Many QB scouts had Rattler ranked ahead of QBs like Bo Nix who’s starting now as a rookie. I can say many of the rookie Qbs look better than the vets right now.
