Yes Greg was very aggressive with his blitz calling but it was mainly a problem for many when he did it in the red zone. Everywhere else on the field it made his defense very opportunistic forcing fumbles, getting sacks, getting interceptions...and guess what - his defense was middle of the pack and we won the superbowl. If I'm not mistaken his defense was the quarterback slayers that year taking down all the greats...Manning, Warner, Farve, Brady

Funny thing is that the year we won the SB we were ranked 21st in overall defense (if I’m not mistaken). What made us look dominant was the ridiculous amount of turnovers we caused that season. But here’s the thing, we never repeated that level of turnover production. So we were left with Greg sending out all out blitzes in our territory that left us to get burnt up the seams for 30- 40 yard gash plays.

It wasn’t just theRed Zone area. Greg would blitz a kickoff if he could. People were so sick of his overuse of the blitz that many were calling for his ouster before Bountygate came to surface.

As I said, too many people are caught up in the moment and sanitizing the past. If DA‘s defense upsets you, then Greg’s blitz crazed gameplan will make you want to jump out of a window.

I also remember that pick 6 by Porter in the Super Bowl. That pick of Favre in the NFC Championship game. That de-cleater of Kurt Warner . . .

That attitude. That fear instilled in opposition. QBs constantly being hit, hurried into making forced throws and bad decisions. Yea I remember that too

Vaccaro ballin, Hicks ballin , Bell ballin. Everyone we get rid of starts ballin. Payton should have promoted Nolan to DC and fired Allen and Glenn last year. Its like the Bill Johnson Greg McMahon Joe Vitt thing again with Payton. He is too loyal to losers while real talent is out there waiting for an opportunity. Allen and Glenn are losers straight up. They are both coaches who need to be demoted or fired. Wasting talent every year while they keep on giving us a 22nd-30th ranked secondary. Like I heard someone say yesterday, Payton needs to nut up and clean house on the defensive side of the ball. Start with Glenn, then immediately follow that by actively going out for someone who is a motivator. We need a DC that will light his players up on the sidelines. Allen ain't it. Allen ain't it! Allen isn't going to help us reach a SB. Every chance he's had, he's blown it. Straight up.

Janoris is our only competent DB. The PI in the end zone was a bonehead play, but otherwise he was fine. Lattimore, on the other hand, yeeesh.

I agree but I kinda blame Aaron Glenn, why haven't he and other CBs progressed. That's on coaching.

Davis is the leader however he may be a bit timid b/c he's only been here three years compared to others who should be leading i.e. Cam Jordan. It may not be until mid season or next year where he really takes the reigns as the ex-facto leader.
