Jeff Duncan's take (5 Viewers)

I think what you’re looking to see in preseason is how the team is jelling. Are they committing dumb penalties? How’s the execution? Do the players know their assignments etc etc.

It’s not about wins or losses or the quality of the opponent (who is doing the same thing) it’s about evaluating the team, creating chemistry and knocking off rust

It's preseason, so I don't think any of us are going to get carried away.

56 + years of Saints football coverage and far and away he is the bottom of the barrel. How he keeps a job is a mystery. I have yet to see anything insightful come out of an article under his byline.

On the news page linked to Nola, is an article (you can't read unless you pay) that's entitled (I came away less optimistic). He said that KC was missing a lot of their players, so basically we shouldn't have been impressed by our teams performance.

I beg to differ. We were missing some of our starters too. Rashid Shaheed, Demario Davis, and Andrus Peat (if he's still a starter). But, the point is that our team was performing very well. And, it was against the defending Superbowl champions.

We were a 7-10 team last year, yet our starters - less the aforementioned) totally outplayed KC.

Jeff is totally off-base in this one. I mean, yes, I'd love to have seen RAM go up against Chris Jones, but I already know that RAM can handle him. And as for them missing some receivers, so what. Lattimore and Adebo and Taylor could handle them too.

Jeff may not be optimistic, but I am. I loved the 🔥 the team came out with. Cam Jordan doing backflips. Kahlen Saunders dancing. This team was 🔥 up, and that tells me about the character and makeup of this year's team over last year.

We held KC and Patrick Mahomes (the best QB in the NFL right now) to 31 yards of offense in the 1st quarter with our starters in the game. Our offense looked like a Drew Brees run unit - efficient and executing flawlessly.

Sneaky Pete showed that he can be a very good playcaller.

What's not to be optimistic about.

Lighten up Jeff and just enjoy the ride.
You BETCHA~! One , admittedly, Pre-Season but still, small sample but a strong one! I'll TAKE IT~!

This preseason showed something we havent seen over the last 3-4 years. That was dominance at any point, alot of the last few preseason games looked lost, even with SP and Jameis the season after Brees retired looked a little lost even with starters. This kind of reminded me of the Saints/Raiders preseason game from 2009 which was a blow out, but this is vs a quality squad. It gives me hope this season maybe be a really good one if the O-Line can stay healthy.

I must be the only one who doesn’t have a problem with Jeff Duncan having his own take as he’s a columnist and analyst. It’s odd to see an opinion taken so personal. Every article doesn’t have to put the team on a pedestal. KC did indeed not play Kelce, Jones, and a few other key starters. It’s ok to put things in perspective. Don’t see a reason for outrage and a long critical OP because he wrote an article with a different POV.

It’s also weird to see Duncan repeatedly called out or bashed on here for his individual opinion knowing he has an active member account on SR and he’s covered the team for decades

Wow I missed that period when he was on here. Gonna guess it didn’t end well

John Siggler has put in his first roster projection. Much of the bad play was by the players he's projecting to be gone.
Zack Baun is not mentioned at all.

He's not listed as a player being kept or being cut. Not mentioned in the LB write-up....

Linebackers (5)
No. 56 Demario Davis
No. 20 Pete Werner
No. 59 Jaylon Smith
No. 45 Nephi Sewell
No. 43 Ryan Connelly

Roster cuts: No. 52 D’Marco Jackson, No. 42 Ty Summers, No. 58 Anfernee Orji, No. 40 Nick Anderson

This is a crowded group — it’s tough to not keep Orji or Summers on the roster, but the Saints have a lot of options at linebacker. New Orleans typically carries two linebackers on the practice squad so they could return after roster cuts. They didn’t sign Smith last week to cut him without getting a look at him first. Sewell and Connelly seemed like the most effective backups at linebacker against the Chiefs, and they each played a lot of snaps on special teams, too. Jackson has had a solid offseason after returning from an injury.

IIRC, that was his screen name during his brief stint on this very forum.
He’s still on the forum but occasionally reading threads. I seen him active on the SSF page not long ago in April or May.

His only posted activity was promoting his books about Payton/Brees and the Saints becoming a winning team after baghead era. Don’t see any arguments or back and forths. I’m not sure why there’s classless namecalling like turds or tools just because Duncan’s impartial as a writer about a football game. It’s way too safe to anonymously talk bad about someone over football

He sided strongly with the NFL/Goodell on bountygate.

I agree with you on the name calling. There’s no place for it. And Duncan has proven that his info can be solid (even if his opinions aren’t).

But that’s why there’s so much emotion whenever his name is brought up.
