Jeff Duncan's take (3 Viewers)

Reading Duncan’s 2012 articles on bountygate, I can see why some feel a way towards him. Its journalism to give an unbiased perspective though. I see it as an accountability piece to make a necessary culture change for the team. It’s not like he called out the FO, city and fans.

I’m 50/50 on it also. Punishment was full of inconsistencies. But Williams, Vitt, and Payton shouldn’t have put themselves and the team in that position in the first place to interrupt a great run, mainly Williams and Vitt. Nobody to blame but WVP.

It’s not that deep for some to be classless towards Duncan over a columnist opinion like he was the one who caused bountygate or the punishment by writing about it after the decision
No but he made it seem worse than it was. He was trying to make a name for himself IMHO

Run-of-the-mill beat writer Jeff Duncan was so jealous of Sean Payton's swagger and success. So he gullibly bought into the Bountygate Big Lie and totally missed Goodell's ruse of using the Saints as a prop for the NFL's fake 'head injury safety' campaign, with the injury data coverup trial in motion. The only reason Duncan still works in NOLA is because he has the personality of a doorknob. So he tries to be a shock jock and all you can do is roll your eyes.

Exactly.

Jeff is @ it again. Now he's saying we should trade Will Lutz. What is it with him. Will is a proven commodity. Grupe is an unknown.

Kicking in practice, and pre-season games is not the same as in big games that count. The pressure is greater.

Lutz had a down year coming off injury, but he is showing that he is back. Why would we want to trade him.
Lutz trade info came from Peter King’s football morning in America column. Duncan shared King’s insight on what he was hearing. There’s interested teams. They never said that they wanted a player traded.

We have two capable kickers. We won’t keep both. Both will be kicking for someone in week 1. Denver/Payton will likely need a kicker. It makes sense to get value for one of them if Denver or another team is interested. There’s nothing to be in uproar about moving on from one of the kickers who will lose the Saints kicking battle.

This is basically a let’s trash Jeff Duncan thread because he said the Chiefs didn’t play their starters and it messed up our perfect view of the Saints performance.

Would’ve thought he took shots at a player or FO. Weird thread to criticize a writer for having an objective view about preseason. Surprised to see all the personal shots at Duncan is allowed

Duncan and the SSF have a beef from way back. It's not so much his objective view that's being criticized, it's him. You'll see this any time one of his articles comes up. You don't see people going at any other Saints related reporter/talking head like this, even if they say negative things about the team. Duncan sealed his fate when he tried to ride the Bounty Gate wave to fame and glory.

Taking Saints fan emotion out of it, Duncan was honestly right about holding Payton, Williams, and Vitt accountable. Goodell laid the hammer excessively because of the player safety lawsuits going on at the time. They also put themselves in the position to be taken away from the team and ruin a run by participating or allowing what happened.

I think once the narrative started about Duncan trying to advance his career, that stuck and peoples emotions took over getting ahead of themselves and forget this is football and business. Trying to seek better writer opportunity at the time could be true for Duncan, while there’s also no other local reporter covering the team with an objective view about the team. Everything is mostly sunshine and putting the team on a pedestal 98% of the time from NOF and others. Its important to stay objective with a balanced view all around.

What people like Duncan and Peter King did during that debacle was unforgivable in my opinion. They helped Roger Goodell push the big lie. They were part of the pearl clutching, pious media spreading Goodell's message.

Yup, I remember that totally made up BS story about the Saints listening to other teams over an intercom in the Dome lockerrooms or some such garbage. PK couldn't wait to trumpet that lie.....they are both hacks.....

He’s still on the forum but occasionally reading threads. I seen him active on the SSF page not long ago in April or May.

His only posted activity was promoting his books about Payton/Brees and the Saints becoming a winning team after baghead era. Don’t see any arguments or back and forths. I’m not sure why there’s classless namecalling like turds or tools just because Duncan’s impartial as a writer about a football game. It’s way too safe to anonymously talk bad about someone over football
💯 cowards do that. The internet brings out the worst in many folks. Mike Tyson said it best on comfort of being behind a screen while sheet talking.

Speaking of Duncan, just saw it referenced that he thought the Saints would cut both Winston and Peat if not for the hit being too much this season. I’m looking for the article or tweet as I’ve only seen this on another Saints forum, without a corroborating link. Wouldn’t surprise me tho, at all.

*apparently he just said it on the radio.

Here it is on AFR:

Now tell me, why would you get rid of 2 good backups. He's become a joke at covering this team

If you have 2 better and less expensive options maybe?

Hey Saints did trade CGJ around this time last season for a day3 pick it is possible....Probably better to hold for this season dont need any last minute surprises to upset chemistry.
