Jets taking calls for WR Davante Adams……….. Adams expected to be released if no trade (42 Viewers)

How about we stop prodding and coddling Derek Carr? Oh, Derek, you can have your cuddly pet friend receiver if you'll just lower your salary. That's absurd if they're going to restructure him and pay more on the back end, when Derek and DaVante are retired and golfing.

A firm no to the old and now journeyman Adams.
A restructure and a paycut is two completely different things

And just how much of a paycut are you asking Derek and DaVante to each take, so we can let their agents know? The restructure is more realistic, the paycut at the level it would take to be realistic, aint realistic. Still not realistic even if the Jets have a heaping plate of Fried Dead Cap, like we are next year.

And while Derek and DaVante put some numbers up three long seasons ago, go check the Raiders 2022 record and get back to me.

To anyone, here's a hint. They started the season... 2-7. Ring a bell?

Ageism in society: BAD!

Ageism in NFL with multi-millionaires on 3rd contracts on mediocre and rebuilding teams: SEEYA!

@DSnfla

I dedicate my posts to you. You see a clown emoji, I see a heart disguised as a clown.

I’ve said multiple times in this thread the numbers…

1 year 10 million for Adams, Carr takes a 10 million paycut to make it happen (not restructure, PAYCUT). If Carr is not willing to take that paycut then it doesn’t happen.

Adams is the wrong player at the wrong time for this team. He's 32 years-old, expensive, and a declining player. We need to build for the long term with young, ascending players.

I’ll say this - I don’t necessarily disagree with what you’re saying, but since the team has already declared that it thinks it can win now, and intends to be active in free agency, it’s time that we stop looking at things through these types of lenses.

What I mean is, while it would be ideal for the team to find a young X wide receiver with size, it is probably not likely to happen. So in the meantime, if we think we can win now, signing an older guy to fill that role in the short term may be the move…for better or for worse.

After hearing Loomis’ remarks, I am of the mindset of “What do we have to do to maximize our wins in 2025,” and a Davante Adams would most certainly help in that regard, at the right price.

You believe he would even consider a 1 year $1.57M salary?

No chance.

Adams is still a legitimate talent. Jets fans aren’t happy with this news.

I know their team overall was bad, but Adams quietly balled out there.

67 receptions for 854 yards and 7 touchdowns in 11 games (and that’s with a couple of throwaway games in there as he had to get acclimated with a new team midstream). Counting his Raiders numbers, he ended the year with 85 catches for 1,063 yards in just 14 games total.

I don’t know why people are talking about this guy like he’s some sort of over the hill chump. The guy hasn’t shown much slow down. It’s coming for sure, but a small 1 to 2 year commitment wouldn’t be the worst investment of our available dollars we can create IMO.

If we are going to roll with Carr, we need to fully embrace it and give him the best tools we can reasonably afford to give him to succeed.

If we were willing to give a Chase Young a one year mercenary type deal a year ago, we should be more than willing to do the same for a Davante Adams.

People are really turning their noses up at a receiving core of Davante Adams, Chris Olave, and Rasheed Shaheed? Are you kidding me? Man, Sean Payton really did a number on folks here, giving the impression we can get away with just trotting out any ol’ body at WR.

Agree on all points. I don't think it was Payton or Brees and their ability to turn regular WRs into contributors, it was MT who fell of a cliff. There's also many who want to blow it up and rebuild the roster, but what they fail to recognize is we don't rebuild, we just retool.

If we are going to maximize wins in 2025 and really, Wins is all that matters, Adams makes sense. He and Carr are friends and they have a history together. He's also not a diva like many WR1s are, so that's a bonus. Means a potential development X WR, is very similar in size/ability to Adams so he could learn a lot from him.

If we add him and roll with Adams, Olave, and Shaheed, that's still a smallish trio of WRs. I'd hope we would add a Big X to the WR room.

Adams, to me, though he’s only 6-1, plays like a big X. I think he can fulfill that role.

To your point though, hopefully we can re-sign MVS to check that box.

I'm guessing he goes to the Commanders. That team is loading up for a few runs before they have to pay Daniels. Terry, Deebo, and Adams with Daniels and a above average RB is about as scary as they come. Basically Lamar with competent WRs. I'm sure he's probably looking for a ring at this point, anyways. I really don't see the Saints as a likely destination at this point.

That would be wild. Word is he wants to go to the west coast though. I think he ends up a Charger.

I appreciate others have commented along similar lines already, but I still choose to highlight the fact that people too often base their support for acquiring a (usually declining/overpriced/injury-affected) player on the nonsense premise that they'll sign for a pittance.

Neither the player, their agent or the market in general will have any interest in lowballing themselves. Simple as that.

Yup, totally agreed.....makes sense only if you think you're a WR away from contending....

It's a good plan, may be more complex than that or totally unrealistic (see TribK's post), but if it happens, I will rush in and give you deserved props.

I want the "Baby Saints," I like seeing teams in the Saints sij get rebuilt starting from the "football cradle."
