John Clayton on Shockey (3 Viewers)

Miller + EJ = Young + Lake + 1st day rookie DT + 1 st day rookie CB + rookie OG + 3 rookies for depth

Shockey = Young + Lake + one 1 st round rookie + two late round rookies - picks next year

would love to know how you came about this equation

Shockey also had a play when his helmet fell off and he continued to run at people instead of running towards out of bounds like Witten

Thanks for backing me up Pickz. I remember Shockey got a busted lip on the play, but he got everyone in Giants Stadium riled up when he got back up. He was jumping up and down and hollering, fist pumping, etc.

Shockey is an IDIOT! The damage he could do to this "team" off of the field has to be looked at.

The guy complains publicly about his coaches and teammates, and was acting the fool during the Giants Super Bowl run... This board was littered w/ "Can you belive how Shockey is acting?" threads. I know it's a cliche, but the guy is a cancer.

I also beilieve he's pretty over-rated for his on-field performance as well. The guy seems to be banged up all the time as well. He's a used car... He was very valuable right of the lot, but now he's got a good bit of miles on him, has had some engine problems, and has a tempermental clutch.

I don't want him on this team.

After all, NE got Moss for a 4th. Loomis needs to hold firm with the Giants if they want to trade Shockey.

thats not exactly a fair comparrison. moss wanted out of oakland, and everybody in the world labeled moss as a cancer who was old and used up.

at that time a 4th was a steal for raidernation.

Shockey also had a play when his helmet fell off and he continued to run at people instead of running towards out of bounds like Witten

He didn't run towards the sideline. He popped 2 guys over the middle, his helmet came off, and he made a 40 yard dash to the endzone where he was tackled at the 5.

That was all Shockey, and it was one of the sweetest plays of the season. I didn't even know Dallas's TE had a similar play.

Shockey has become a head case and is not worth a 3rd round pick, IMHO.

So you would rather have Usama Young, Andy Alleman, Alfred Fincher, Cie Grant, James Allen, Troy Davis, Brady Smith, Mike Verstegen, Winfred Tubbs, Tyrone Legette, Joel Smeenge, Kim Phillips, Tony Stephens, and Mike Adams? Those are every Saints third-round pick since 1987, and I can't believe you'd rather have those clowns over someone like Shockey. If you can get Shockey for a third-rounder - a spot in the draft that clearly has not been very productive for us for a while - then I'd say do it. Same goes for the second round, as our track record there is not much better.

(We did get Pat Swilling and Reuben Mayes in the third round in 1986, so it has worked out from time to time. But we hardly have Jim Finks making the picks now.)

Not really sure what is so impressive about that Shockey play. He gets his helmet knocked off, gets pretty much immediately tackled after that, and then gets up and stomps around for a bit.

I'm in the camp that we have more pressing needs to be addressed rather than spending more draft picks on this guy. JMHO

these player trades will get cheaper as the draft nears, everyone wants new and young and they get caught up in the hype.

I think they also want to move shockey before the end of the season, he never is involved in their offseason program.

I think they would do well to get rid of him, and Brees could handle Shockey, Payton has also been his coach before so they both know what to expect

As far as lito sheppard goes, the draft is so full of CBs that it won't take long before every team has one and his draft starts to fall mid first round, it drops to 2 or 3. they have to move him, he has been replaced, kinda like when we got rid of Ricky williams, or how we couldn't trade Darren Howard. We had Deuce and will smith.

Since there have been many different reports on exactly what Vilma cost us, I am not sure we have a 4th (or maybe a 3rd depending on his play).

If we take him with a 4th, and Vilma kicks butt this year, that'll mean no 3rd or 4th next year. Not sure it's worth it if that's the case.

if Vilma kicks enough butt this year, our 3rd and 4th picks next year might as well be 4th and 5th picks
