Judge erases Aaron Hernandez’s murder conviction (1 Viewer)

Maybe I am looking a this the wrong way, but my first thought was "good for his kids". Maybe my point of view is skewed from having a strong relationship with a family whose father is likely going to serve the rest of his life in prison. I get heart broken thinking about what his kids are having to endure because of the decisions of their father. However, their father was not due to make millions of dollars. So maybe I am wrong for feeling empathy for Hernandez' kids, but I do feel it and after all of the legal finagling, I hope there is something left for them.

I can understand and appreciate how the Lloyd family would be upset with this legal loophole, but, and I hope this does not come off insensitive, Hernandez isn't walking out of jail. Still I would imagine this ruling has reopened wounds that should have never been opened.

As far as the Patriots having to pay the remainder of his contact, once again I do not want to come off insensitive, but they are not going to pay Hernandez. His family, and specifically his children, would likely at least see some of the remaining money that he earned based on his play.

I am not condoning what he did. I am not saying that I agree with the loophole in the law. My first thought, however, was that his children may see some benefit from a tragic series of events.

I do not see how taking his life leaves his legacy untarnished. I don't think it changes his legacy in the least. In fact I would actually say it tarnishes it further because he will still be talked about and it will have nothing to do with sports.

I feel compassion for his daughter. She'll never know the love from her father. I really do feel that his (final) actions were for her benefit, but the fact is that someone will profit by his manipulation of the law.

The other issue is that wiping his conviction away will keep tomorrow's unknowing masses from knowing the truth. Murderer is murderer. Now the uneducated will think he was a great guy.

Saying Aaron Hernandez isn't guilty of murder is the same as saying that Reggie Bush didn't win the Heisman, or that Pete Rose's on field performances don't merit his being in Cooperstown.

Technicalities are going to skew the truth, and that's what I think is horse *pucky*

Judge erases Aaron Hernandez

And now we possibly understand why he committed suicide. He sacrificed himself to make sure his wife and daughter are taken care of. It's sad that the system could be manipulated like this. I like that his daughter potentially won't have to suffer for his bad decisions, but I can't act like this is some noble thing he did either.

What a crazy situation all around.

To me, once convicted, you are guilty. An appeal should be considered a mechanism for someone who is guilty to prove his innocence. The idea that appealing a court finding makes the original court finding invalid in a pending manner is silly.

You are exactly right!!! Green thumbs all the way!!!

good and bad from this story. No way that should've been overturned and at first I thought it was a slap in the face to the victims family but then I realized he's dead so they can take closure in that.

I'd rather have justice than that.

It wasn't overturned - that implies some error or deficiency in the conviction. It was voided under a due process rule. I don't think the judge had discretion, it was voided by application of state law.

I know, and it's because the case is so high profile, that this law has caused some uproar.

But I think it makes sense. If the guy is dead, what more can you really do to the person? Is it really worth the tax payer money to try this guy again, or hear appeals? Seems like a giant waste of tax payer dollars. Time to close the book on this guy. The victims who are still with us, have permanent wounds, that only time can dull. The sooner we forget about this guy, the better off everyone involved is.

Does anyone really think he got the last laugh on the system? He was hanging by a bed sheet, rigged to a barred window that was less than 36 inches off the ground. Dude had to dead leg himself and really struggle to get the job done. That is not how a vindicated man goes out, and thats all anyone will remember him for in a handful of years. History will not be kind to Aaron Hernandez, the cold blooded killer who they found hanging in his jail cell.

He should have HUNG around a little longer.:jpshakehead:
I don't know why this got red thumbed 12 times, I thought it was funny.

Plus, who gives a **** about this guy?! He was a thug and a murderer. I don't feel one bit sad for him. He deserved the death penalty anyway.

Exactly the judge didn't have a choice under law from what I read. Also this forces it to go through the process at a higher level. Again, from what I read :ezbill:.
