Not a Saints fan but I post here a lot. Played college ball.
I had the weirdest sports experience.
In HS I played football but my coach did not like me. So he neglected me a lot and did not want me playing at all. Even when I would clearly beat out the starters, he would still not start me. The other coaches felt bad so they started me on every single special teams. For the love of the game I took the abuse for 4 years. All my friends told me to transfer schools so I can start, but in reality I was in love with my girlfriend at the time and did not want to leave the school(ahh stupid teenage love).
I also did track and field. I ended up getting a half athletic scholarship for track and field and the other half an academic scholarship to a D-1AA school in Texas. Honestly did not want to leave Cali but free school so I did it.
At this school, the football team had try outs and I went. Long story short I made it. I played safety, corner, running back and fullback. Before you guys think "oh, hes one of those backup practice bodies" I started all my 2 years at this school. I played a different position every 3-4 games(combination of injuries on the team and guys failing at their jobs). I got a call towards the middle of my 2nd season there from a recruit at a D-1 school in Texas and he was asking me to switch schools and they would give me a full ride after the season. Well 2nd to last game of the season I tore both my ACL and MCL on a screen play and that ended that.
After the tear I moved back to Cali and went to school there by where I lived.
So yeah, didn't start in HS but balled out in College. Not exactly an everyday story. And yes, my coach was fully aware of my performance in college
