Kafka is a Dark Horse (1 Viewer)

Kafka could be great. People here are short sighted.
I’ve got enough sight to see how bad and dysfunctional the Giants offense was under his leadership. We’re talking about the OC whose offense scored the 2nd fewest points in the league. This is the guy we want? His ultimate job is to score points, and he was the 2nd worst at that job in 2024. Going from OC to HC with that on his resume is called failing up.

A first sign of the beginning of understanding is the wish to die.’ – Franz Kafka

“You are the knife I turn inside myself; that is love. That, my dear, is love.”

“I usually solve problems by letting them devour me.”

Yet many people in league circles, who get paid to eat, breathe, and sleep football, have nothing but great things to say about him. Those people know where the talent-poor Giants offense ranked last season yet there hasn’t been a counter-argument against him that I’ve seen based on it.

You (and I, to be fair) write on a message board for free. I know which way my scale tips.

He may not wind up being the hire, but he’s not getting these interviews for nothing. Get a grip.

Either it’s a Coach with a track record or let Rizzi try. Kubiak was hamstrung. Get a good DC and go. It’s either McCarthy or some unknown. I don’t think I trust Loomis any longer!

So you trust a carryover special teams coach to guide Loomis in restructuring this team? Rizzi is the worst possible scenario.

I like Kafka, too. He may not be a known commodity to the fans outside of his cities/teams, but it’s clear that he’s highly regarded amongst NFL circles. W/AG off the market, i agree that Kafka could be the hidden gem of this year’s coaching carrousel. I dont know if it’s on Sean Payton’s level, but Kafka clearly has a bonafide HC swag to him.

I like the idea of what Brady & Moore could be as HC’s, but count me in as a Kafka for HC supporter. He knows what a championship franchise & QB looks like & operates. At the same time, he also knows what a D-level franchise looks like & how impossible it is to win w/a D-level QB. If he became our HC, i believe Kafka would make it a point to address the QB position via his experiences in KC & NYG. Or at least i hope he does/would. Carr aint it & Rattler has a high ceiling, but his floor is equally low.

So your top 2 choices are:

Rizzi
Kafka

Is this part of a short term tank strategy?
No need to tank…the team doesn’t have talent. The talent that’s there is either aging or injury prone. Losing should come naturally without tanking. If it’s Rizzo v McCarthy, Brady, or Moore…just keep Rizzi. Those other guys aren’t turning this around in 3 years

Yeah the team needs a Metamorphosis.

But I do not want constant images of giant cockroaches.

Honestly let's just get McCarthy and be done with it.
Agreed…we really don’t have a lot to offer. We are in terrible financial shape as usual, our roster is old in key positions….I think we just need someone to guide us through the bad times where we will see light at the end of the tunnel in a few seasons. Put all of our emphasis on the draft and play those players. Who knows we might be surprised at the end of the season.

We aren’t going to the Super Bowl, we can’t even win a weak division.

Posted this elsewhere ... might as well post it here, too (very slight edits:

Kafka has some things in common with where Sean Payton was in 2006.

Payton had only coached one Pro Bowl QB before Brees, Tony Romo. BUT Payton also squeezed every drop of juice out of guys like Kerry Collins and Quincy Carter (and then later in N.O. with Teddy Bridgewater).

Kafka, similarly, has only coached one Pro Bowl QB, Patrick Mahomes. But Kafka squeezed every drop out of guys like Daniel Jones, Tyrod Taylor, Tommy DeVito, and Drew Lock. Seriously, look at the jump Jones made in 2022 when Kafka came aboard -- I bet a lot of people don't remember that the Giants won a road playoff game that season:

Kafka was still the Giants' OC in 2023. Jones battled through a neck injury in 2023 that sapped his arm strength and cost him three starts. Then he went on IR with a knee in November. Tyrod Taylor and Tommy Devito split the rest of the starts and did better than they had any right to expect (both with identical QBRs of 89 and a combined 13-6 TD-INT ratio).
Didn’t Payton lose playcalling duties too at one point? If I’m not mistaken Parcells did so because he was pass happy
